Announcing Mix March Madness 2013 Seeding Round!
UPDATE: This round is closed. Vote in Round #1 now!
Yes, it’s that time of year again, the time where bracketology reigns supreme and the cry around the nation is “Win or Go Home!” Last year’s Mix March Madness Webcomics Tournament was incredibly popular, and so we’re doing it all over again– and raising money for the Hero Initiative in the process! Find out how…
We’re giving you a list of almost 300 webcomics, and we want your votes . We’re taking the top 128 and putting them in a single elimination tournament where we whittle down the contestants down to one. The top 128 vote getters make it into the tournament, with the biggest getting top seeds. The voting ends Wednesday at 11:59 PM, and brackets go up on Thursday!
Take a look at the comics for yourself. You’ll see some old favorites, but I’m sure there are going to be strips here that you’ve never encountered before…
And we’re giving you the option to put your money where your mouth is and buy additional votes for your favorite strips.
Last year, things got very overheated in a number of ways, with our servers melting from the load from people trying to vote multiple times, and comments getting very intense at the end of the tournament– so much so that Then our finalists, Tom Siddell of Gunnerkrigg Court and Tarol Hunt from Goblins, decided to donate all their winnings to the Child’s Play charity. Semi-finalists Andrew Hussie from Homestuck and Rich Burlew from Order Of The Stick followed suit, and we kicked in the unclaimed winnings from nobody picking the Final Four. We were so moved by the gesture, we adopted it for our own purposes and are now letting you cheat support your favorite strips by paying for additional votes, with your money going to charity. Simply click on the Donate button below, and during checkout, click on “Which comic are you donating for?” and tell us who you’re voting for. It’s 10¢ a vote for this round with a minimum of ten votes purchased at a time, and all proceeds from paid votes will go to the Hero Initiative, an organization that helps comic book creators in need. At the close of the round, we’ll add the paid votes to the totals and announce the winners who move on to the brackets. (And yes, your donations are tax deductible.)
What are you waiting for? Vote now! And remember: The voting ends Wednesday at 11:59 PM, and brackets go up on Thursday!
Wondering which comic you’re referring to by Shifty Look since that site promotes like 20 different comics. Which one is getting the votes?
Argh. That was supposed to list as Dirk Davies. We’ll update it.
Ah, cool. Got it. Thanks!
Vote.
Chipped in $10, forgot to designate my votes! Is there an email I can contact?
Check your email.
Great, thank you! The donate to charity for extra votes idea is awesome by the way.
Glenn – Thanks for including OpinioNation! I retired ON in December & started a new strip on New Year’s called Distractionism. http://roostertree.com/ Cheers!
I’m amused that you’re using “Tintin in Innsmouth” in the title of Broodhollow. Sorry, it was just a shorthand description of it. Tintin is not actually in the comic (there’s just some superficial similarity between Hergé’s hero and Wadsworth Zane, haunted encyclopedia salesman).
Grr. This is the sort of thing that we hate to see at this level of play… we’ll fix it.
Wait, what? No Whiteboard? What about the explosions? And paintballs? Also, Homestuck didn’t run away with it last year, why would it do so this year, Eric?
Why isn’t Vattu on the list? It’s in the directory linked last post.
Probably because when we were compiling the list, we saw the copyright date was still 2012, and there was nothing on the site to tell us which dates they were posting.
It’s on a MWF update and hasn’t been missing updates, as you can see from the feed. http://www.rsspect.com/rss/riceboycomics.xml
We see. We’ve added it to the list.
Same for Quantum Vibe http://www.quantumvibe.com/
Please add! Pleasepleasepleaseprettyplease… ; )
Where is “Holiday Wars?” It’s my favorite comic:
http://www.holiday-wars.com
What, no Chronicles of a Drow Sorceress – http://drowtales.com ? One of the longest and most consistently-updated webcomics out there!
Dates were probably hard for us to find. We’ve added it to the list.
where is MS Paint Adventures?!?!
It’s listed as Homestuck.
I’ve found a new comic already. I’m putting in a vote for Battlepug if it makes it to the next round. It looks like most of the comics I voted for are doing well. Ava’s Demon in particular is killing it, even more than Homestuck.
Looks like you missed “Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic”: http://yafgc.net/
Another NSFW comic. We save them for May.
The link to Gynostar is broken (I wondered why it was a lone blue link in a sea of red): the protocol part is duplicated and there’s a superfluous colon before the archive.
Fixed. Thanks!
The Sketchy is similarly broken.
Fixed. Thanks.
Hm, this list is missing a few comics I thought for sure I’d see. Blip, Hark, A Vagrant, and Sakana aren’t here.
Sakana has a following pretty close to Todd Allison’s, so I’m especially surprised about that. How are comics chosen?
We hadn’t seen a new strip from Hark, A Vagrant yet this year, so we didn’t include it. Blip hasn’t posted anything new since 2011. And no one nominated Sakana until now.
:D Thanks!
Culture Shock, Brawl in the Family, Atomic Laundromat, The Wotch, Curtailed, Miamaska… So many great comics that aren’t on this list!
Err, Hmm, looks like now a couple of those are on the list but now I don’t have the capability to vote anymore.
What gives?
We’d already closed voting yesterday and moved on to the next round.
I’m a bit biased. I would have loved to have seen Hominids on there http://hominidscomic.com/, but Lackadaisy Cat still would get my vote.
Thanks Glenn!
No http://www.gogetaroomie.com/ ?
I would definitely vote for that one if it was in the list.
You’ll see it in May for the NSFW tournament, which it won last year.
is that time of the year again
I would’ve liked to see Boumeries in there, it’s been running for two years. http://boumeries.com
Can you add Too Much Information (http://tmi-comic.com)? And, you know, start if off with one vote since I didn’t get a chance to do that this time…. ;) Thanks!
Can you add Too Much Information (http://tmi-comic.com)? I just discovered it a few weeks ago and now I’m totally hooked. AndyO! is one amazing storyteller.
…and, you know, start if off with one vote since I didn’t get a chance to do that this time…. ;) Thanks!
It’s NSFW, so we save that for our May Mayhem contest. Check back then.
I’m kind of missing the wormworld saga
http://www.wormworldsaga.com/
but I’m seeing some nice ones I didn’t know about, thanks!
Happy to help. Wormworld publishes in such large chunks, it doesn’t fit in our rules of at least one installment in the new year.
School Spirit may be the most overlooked PG-rated comic with 1,000+ strips. At least, that’s how it seems to me.
It’s a crying shame that Nodwick isn’t on the list. Also PS238.
Is there some reason Untold Tales of Bigfoot, Tales of the Checkered Man and Yeti 4 Hire aren’t on the list? Those are fantastic comics!
Few will vote for it, but I’d like to see Myst: Book of Atrus on here, if only so it can get more readers. http://mystcomic.smackjeeves.com/comics/1432774/page-1/
Woo Grrl Power is on the list and I didn’t even nominate it myself. I feel a small amount of validation.
What about Kagerou, at http://www.electric-manga.com/?
An excellent webcomic~
Broodhollow is in the upper half of the list! You can do it, little comic.
Broodhollow yesssssssss
Tarol Stephens (the author of Goblins) mentioned on his live stream that he would like for Goblins to be withdrawn from this contest. I believe this was just last week.
I ask my fellow Goblins fans to honor Thunt’s wishes and not vote for Goblins in the nomination round. If you still want to show your support for the community, one of our longtime forum regulars (LoneStarNorth) has a terrific D&D 4e comic called Will Save World for Gold that could use your support. And of course be sure to read some of the other terrific comics that are sure to appear.
In the event that Goblins remains in the contest, I ask only that all visitors to our forum try to be polite.
Best,
SeeAMoose
Also just donated $5 through the PayPal button but I was never prompted for which comic I wanted my extra votes to count for.
Sent email separately asking you. Reply ASAP, please.
I’m so excited to see archipelago on the list. It’s my favorite comic to ever exist TuT
Leftover Soup? By Tailsteak of 1/0 fame, and as intelligent and unpredictable as one might expect from that creator, not to mention laugh-out-loud funny on a regular basis.
NIMONA! NIMONA! NIMONA!
O GOD I FORGOT TO VOTE FOR HOMESTUCK. Is there any way to fix it. O GOD THIS IS DEPRESSING CUZ IT’S MY FAVORITE COMIC. im sorry. crap.
Don’t worry, I think Homestuck’s place in the Top 128 is secure even if you forgot to vote for it once or twice.
Out of curiosity, why are certain titles in the result list in bold? There doesn’t seem to be any obvious pattern that I can see, and since my comic is one them apparently singled out, I’m curious as to why. :)
They are the comics that you have voted for. :)
Considering that I haven’t voted for anyone (including myself) I somehow doubt that.
i’m kind of disappointed to not see Tripping Over You http://toy.the-comic.org/ in the standings. ): perhaps next year!
Wow – 6-Commando showed up! My comic is so rarefied I’m sure I’m quite surprised to see it. But hey, that’s still cool, man!

add http://www.warrior-u.com !! >o</ come on. i always get left out of these things
