Play the 8 Degrees of Margaret

As you can tell from Sunday’s review, we really enjoyed Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret, now available in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack. 20th Century Home Entertainment has released  a brand new, interactive infographic linking the vast ensemble cast of Margaret to each other in other films and projects.

This 8 Degrees of Margaret chart reflects the many connections among the characters in the movie and the overlapping film projects they have worked on, and is a fun brain teaser for any film buff. Also, hover your mouse over the chart to see star pop-ups highlighting extra facts about those starring in Margaret.

First Look at Alex Cross

Cross has been an international best seller for writing machine James Patterson and now we have the first trailer for the film adaptation, coming October 19. The film stars Tyler Perry, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols, and Jean Reno and was directed by Rob Cohen, who conscripted the adaptation with Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson.

The official synopsis reads:  ALEX CROSS follows the young homicide detective/psychologist (Tyler Perry), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller.

MERLIN to Cast a Spell on San Diego Comic-Con With Sunday Panel and Autograph Session

SAN DIEGO – June 26, 2012 – As it readies for its fifth season, the magical adventure of MERLIN returns to Comic-Con International when actors Colin Morgan and Katie McGrath, along with co-creators and executive producers Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps, lead a surprise-filled panel on Sunday, July 15.

The 10:30 a.m. panel, in Room 6BCF, will feature a Comic-Con-exclusive sneak preview of the upcoming season of MERLIN – which last season attracted its biggest audiences ever on both Syfy in the U.S. as well as BBC One in the U.K.  Comic-Con fans will be the first in the world to get a glimpse of exactly what will become of the wickedly beautiful Morgana (Katie McGrath), the fate of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, and the role Merlin (Colin Morgan) will play in the future of Camelot.

The MERLIN panel will also feature a brand-new, fan-favorite blooper reel created by the producers especially for Comic-Con, as well as details of the soon-to-be-released MERLIN Facebook game.

It’s part of the growing magic of MERLIN, which fans at Comic-Con will also hear about – including an upcoming YouTube channel that will feature behind-the-scenes videos, deleted scenes and other special material from all four seasons of MERLIN.

Since its broadcast debut in 2009, MERLIN has become one of the most popular fantasy dramas in the world, winning acclaim from both critics and audiences.  In its fourth season, MERLIN drew more than 8 million viewers in the U.K., while its U.S. ratings were its biggest ever – topping 2 million viewers – since it began airing on Syfy in 2010.

The series is produced and created by Shine Ltd. and distributed globally, in more than 180 countries, by FremantleMedia Enterprises.  Its fifth season is currently in production in Wales and France.

MERLIN also stars Bradley James as Arthur, Angel Coulby as Guinevere, Richard Wilson as Gaius, and John Hurt as the voice of the Great Dragon Kilgharrah.  The fifth season of MERLIN will begin airing this fall on BBC One, followed shortly by its U.S. premiere on Syfy.

Arguments begin in lawsuit over ‘Spider-Man’ musical

NEW YORK, NY - FEBRUARY 08: A sign for the Br...

Just in time for the movie, when all Marvel wants is good things to come up when they Google “Spider-Man”…

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge is set to hear arguments over what a jury can decide in a civil trial stemming from the Broadway production of “Spider-Man.”

Judge Katherine Forrest must decide whether to dismiss fired director Julie Taymor’s claims that her copyright on a three-page script treatment for the musical was violated. She also will decide the fate of counterclaims brought against Taymor by the show’s producers. A hearing is set for Friday.

Taymor was fired in 2011 as the $75 million production sputtered to get off the ground despite three months of preview performances. The musical was rewritten and it successfully reopened. Taymor sued the producers in November and they countersued. In court papers, the producers say Taymor’s treatment was based on pre-existing “Spider-Man” comics and films.

Finding Nemo is the latest Pixar film to be converted to 3-D and will be released this fall. For a reminder of how much fun the movie was, check out this new trailer.

First Look at Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby

First Look at Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby

Baz Luhrman. F. Scott Fitzgerald. 3-D. Not a combination you would normally think of but the visual stylist is bringing the literary classic The Great Gatsby to the big screen. And in 3-D no less. Rather than the shock value found in too many ill-designed 3-D films, it should be interesting to see what he does with this.

The first trailer for the December Warner Bros. release just went live and based on this, I think we the audience will be in good hands.

This version stars star Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway. Newcomers making their debut include Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim and Brendan Maclean as Klipspringer. The last attempt at adapting the film was the turgid Robert Redford vehicle nearly 40 years ago.
