First Look at Alex Cross
Cross has been an international best seller for writing machine James Patterson and now we have the first trailer for the film adaptation, coming October 19. The film stars Tyler Perry, Edward Burns, Rachel Nichols, and Jean Reno and was directed by Rob Cohen, who conscripted the adaptation with Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson.
The official synopsis reads: ALEX CROSS follows the young homicide detective/psychologist (Tyler Perry), from the worldwide best-selling novels by James Patterson, as he meets his match in a serial killer (Matthew Fox). The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits in this taut and exciting action thriller.

Did Patterson actually write the book?
Idris Elba? Definitely! Chiwetel Ejiofor or Anthony Mackie? Yes. Will Smith? Possibly. Tyler Perry? Ummm. No.*
* Gotta respect his hustle and proving to Hollywood that Black movies and themes make googobs of money. But again…No for Alex Cross.
NOTHING but respect for Tyler Perry. I don’t like his movies but respect for me has nothing to do with rather I like what you do it has to do with what you acomplish. He is the master of his domain. God bless him. That said, Tyler Perry as Alex Cross? God, no. When he goes under cover is it as a woman?
I just watched the trailer…I may be wrong, I was once.
Nope. You’re right. Again. I watched it as well…and Tyler has a ways to go in terms of his acting. I totally understand his desire and need to break out of the type cast bloomers of Madea, but every time I’ve seen him pull off the wig, his delivery seems fairly stilted and forced.
I think he would be well served to do some non comedic cameos in a few ‘serious’ films followed by a couple of well defined support roles before the majority of us no longer see the big woman and build up his chops.
But he’s got an island and private jet, so why should he listen to me?
