K9 To Receive New Look and ‘Doctor Who’ Spin-Off Series
Confirming rumors regarding the new spin-off series for K9, the much-loved robotic dog from Doctor Who, recent reports indicate that filming for the series will begin next month in Australia.
Bob Baker, who originally co-created K9, will write for the 26-part series, which will combine live action with computer-generated imaging for the half-hour episodes. There is no scheduled date for the series to begin airing.
Images of K9’s new look were also released, showcasing the redesign Baker gave the popular character.

Love the redesign.Of course, this means more TOYS!
It was this show (under development for a couple of years now) that kept K9 from making more than a couple cameo appearances in the new Sarah Jane series. These pictures have been circulating for some time now – it's cool if they're actually moving ahead. It's very interesting that K9 was able to be spun off not only from Doctor Who, but from the BBC entirely (this is show is from another producer). They must have made a very interesting deal for the rights, something I believed the Nation estate was trying to do with the Daleks for some time.Come to think of it, I wonder if the heavy use (some would say overuse) of the daleks in the new series was a way to keep the nation estate happy, and not try to get the right back to do something on their own? No evidence, totally a theory I just thought up, I hasten to add.
I really enjoy those, "off the top of the head, no basis in evidence" kind of theories!
WARNING! If you're in the US and checking out the new season of Doctor Who on SciFi, don't go to the GallifreyOne site if you're trying to avoid spoilers, since they report about what has been shown in the U.K. (and we're about 3-4 episodes behind them here in the states!).I love GallifreyOne but am keeping away myself until we see the season 4 finale here.
