Ed, I went to I-Con way back in 1986 and had a super fantastic time!!!! One of my fondest memories is sitting next to Jimmy Doohan (Lt. Commander Montgomery Scott of the U.S.S. Enterprise) in the “green room.” I was having a cup of coffee because it was early in the morning. Mr. Doohan shifted in his chair, his elbow hit the hand with which I was holding my coffee, and the coffee went all over me. (Yes, it was hot!)

Well, he was mortified–and very concerned that I was burned. He got up, got water, grabbed some napkins, and went to wipe me down–and realized that he would be rubbing my breasts. He stopped awkwardly. I just laughed, took the napkins, and did the best I could to wipe the coffee off of me. I ended up going to the bathroom, taking off my top, and washing it in the sink. Then I had to put it back on. :-)

Anyway, it was quite an introduction to Mr. Doohan, and we spent the next 15 or 20 minutes talking. He was a delightful individual.

I also met Isaac Asimov thanks to Julie Schwartz–and no, my wet shirt didn’t stop Mr. Asimov from trying to grab a feel. (I wasn’t wearing a tee-shirt, so there was no “wet tee shirt” going on. And also met Scott McCloud and Norman Spinrad.

And the panels and the fans were fantastic!

  2. Mindy, I had the pleasure of interviewing you at I-Con V, one of the many fond memories I have of that convention. However, I have to point out that while Julie (who was at that convention, as Comics Guest of Honor) may have introduced you to Isaac Asimov at some point, it wasn’t there. The only I-Con Asimov ever attended was 2, back in 1983. The other older guests at I-Con in 1986 were Jack Williamson and Jon Pertwee.
