Actually, this is statement is quite incorrect. During the strip's popularity zenith, which I would "guess-timate" at about 1958, there was Steve Canyon merchandise galore available. There were games, toys, the TV show, books, comic books, public appearances by Caniff around the country, and, of course, the strip itself. As a matter of fact, based on the number of newspapers carrying "Steve Canyon," the strip was twice as popular as "Terry and the Pirates" ever was under Caniff's 13-year stint as writer-artist.

Regarding the DVD itself, I really enjoyed this first volume. For its era, "Steve Canyon" was a pretty intense and sophisticated show -- clearly targeting adults, rather than the "Rin Tin Tin" crowd.
