So, it seems every day as we open our papers, turn on our TV’s, and fire up our computers… Arizona is adding law after law that makes our jaws drop. If Arizona were itself a TV show, it just jumped a shark, and added several new adorable “cousins” to liven up it’s image. From requiring President Barack Obama to present his birth certificate in order to run for re-election in the state, to it’s newest law allowing police the ability to pull over anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant… we’re not sure who’s writing the laws in the state. According to our sources though, it appears to be none other than state captive Norman Osborn. After his depantsing at the hands of the newly formed Avengers, our embedded agent at S.H.I.E.L.D. found documentation that as his back-up back-up plan to leading project H.A.M.M.E.R., Norman decided to get into villainous legislation writing. Who knew Arizona would be his biggest buyer! The following list was sent to us by our agent, laying out 10 new laws Normie has planned for the state to vote into law:

1.Police officials will be allowed to pull over anyone they suspect of owning Spider-Man merchandise. The detained will be searched, and if they have anything pertaining to the wall-crawler, they will be paddled in the bottom until they cry uncle.

2.Fast Food chains will have to present documentation with all nutritional information for their food on demand. Fast Food chains will also have to add at least 3 oz. of liquid ‘Globulin Green’ to all food products. For health reasons.

Luke Cage Being Eyed for the Silver Screen

Geoff Boucher at the Los Angeles Times reports that Luke Cage is likely to be one of the first next level Marvel heroes to get the film treatment. Marvel Studios announced a few weeks ago that the time had come to look at the smaller characters for lower budgeted films but no formal announcements had been made.

Marvel continues to develop Ant Man with director Edgar Wright, which may also fall into this category and Stan Lee mentioned Doctor Strange as a strong candidate to perform film magic sooner than later.

Cage was first introduced in 1972 in Hero for Hire, from writer Archie Goodwin and artists George Tuska and Billy Graham. He’s been a fixture ever since and in the last few years has gained prominence under the pen of Brian Michael Bendis who featured him first in Alias then the New Avengers. As part of the Heroic Age refresh of the Marvel Universe, he takes center stage in Thunderbolts beginning with issue #144 with writer Jeff Parker and artist Kev Walker, on sale May 26.

“Speaking of Luke Cage, a.k.a. Power Man, I hear that there’s more talk underway about putting the urban hero into his own film and that a notable Hollywood star is now having (very) preliminary talks with Marvel Studios about the property and its potential,” Boucher wrote.

‘Iron Man 2’ Trivia: Who Else Has Worn The Armor?

Tony Stark is the man called Iron Man. For years, he has worn high-tech armor of his own creation in order to protect his interests or save the world as a whole. Over the years, he has altered and updated his suit time and time again.

But sometimes Tony has needed other people to wear the armor. Maybe so they can act as back-up. Maybe so they can help provide an alibi. Maybe because Tony himself just can’t do that job that time.

In Iron Man 2, the question comes up about who may be worthy to wear the armor and whether or not there shouldn’t be a whole army of Iron Men protecting the U.S. If a team of Iron Men sounds weird, You might be interested to know that years back there actually was a short-lived “Iron Legion” team formed by Jim Rhodes AKA War Machine and which included the various people who’ve worn the armor over the years.

So without further ado, here are the people who made up that Iron Legion and who’ve been an alternate Iron Man for different reasons over the years.

‘Men in Black 3’ Will be a 3-D Reunion

With the summer 2010 film season officially underway, calendars for 2011 and 2012 are rapidly filling up with eagerly anticipated fare. The latest juggernaut to claim a weekend is Columbia Pictures’ Men in Black III, which staked out May 25, 2012. Jumping on the bandwagon, the film was also announced as a 3-D production.

The film will feature the return of Will Smith as Agent Jay, and Tommy Lee Jones is expected back as Agent Kay, although he has yet to complete negotiations. Portraying a younger Agent Kay will likely be Josh Brolin.

A screenplay has been completed by Etan Cohen after several years of discussion over whether or not any of the principals wanted to reprise their roles. Barry Sonnenfeld will return to direct as he has on the first two installments based on Lowell Cunningham’s black and white comic book from Malibu (now owned by Marvel/Disney).

Summer 2012 will be another sequel heavy period with Madagascar 3 set for the same weekend followed June 29 by the Star Trek sequel and then Spider-Man 4 on July 3. The season kicks off May 4 with The Avengers.

Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, said in a release, “Sony’s summer of 2012 will get off to a red hot start with an incredible new 3D adventure for the Men in Black. We couldn’t be more excited that the original filmmaking team responsible for the first two worldwide hits is reuniting for this third installment.”

Review: ‘Iron Man The Complete 1994 Animated Television Series’

I have enjoyed [[[Iron Man]]] as a character since discovering the Marvel super-heroes through the limited animation shows of the 1960s. That led me to the comics and so on. All along, shellhead has been one of my favorite characters so you can imagine my delight at the Jon Favreau film and the chance to write an original novel adventure.

I’ve been looking forward to this week’s sequel and no surprise; have been sent his animated adventures for review. When the live-action film came out two years ago, the mainstream press kept referring to him as a lesser known character and that may have been true to film critics, but he’s been a well-known television character for decades.

After all, he was seen in the 1960s series plus a guest appearance on [[[Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends]]], before gaining his own half-hour show as part of the Marvel Action Hour from 1994-1996. He has guest starred on other Marvel animated shows, had his own animated feature and most recently, the youthful [[[Armored Adventures]]] show. Not too shabby.

His 26 episode series from the 1990s is available this week as a three-disc set from Disney Home Entertainment. The two 13 episodes are quite different yet neither are very good. On the one hand, the series hews very closely to the comic book look and feel of the era.  The details, though, are very different starting with the green-skinned Mandarin as the main foe throughout. The Golden Avenger’s familiar foes all seem to be work for him as does a diminutive and poorly characterized MODOK. It’s the Mandarin who captures the injured Stark as revealed in the two-part origin story so it focuses their enmity from the beginning, not entirely unlike what Favreau is setting up in the films. Perhaps the biggest origin alteration is that slivers of metal threaten his spine, not his heart. Is it better or more plausible? Maybe.

Rather than focus the series on Tony Stark and his armored alter ego, it includes the West Coast Avengers, er, Force Works so time is given over to War Machine, Century, Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye and Spider Woman. Julia Carpenter becomes Tony’s romantic interest complete with engagement, so that’s different.

Tony Stark isn’t just a cool exec with a heart of steel. He’s also the technological hero called Iron Man. And with Iron Man 2 coming out this Friday, we’re sure to see new suits of armor with cool improvements. Over the years, Tony has constantly redesigned and updated his armor. There’s been stealth armor, undersea armor, space armor, briefcase armor, armor that has horned face plates, armor with extended shoulder pads, etc., etc.

But some changes are not all they’re cracked up to be and perhaps should’ve been left on the drawing board. So let’s take a look at some of the silliest upgrades Iron Man has made to his famous armor.

Tip of the hat to The Hollywood Reporter for letting us know that the third installment of Chris Nolan’s Batman franchise will be hitting theaters July 20th, 2012. So long as the Mayans and Jon Cusak were wrong, and that the Earth is still in tact… consider the date iCal-able. July of course seems to be Nolan’s lucky month, as we all recall The Dark Knight was released July 18th of 2008, and his new thriller Inception will be gracing the multiplex July 16th of this year.

2012 is quickly becoming a huge year for us fanboys. In addition to Nolan’s unnamed Bat-sequel, a bevvy of heavy hitters will debut. First out of the gates will be Marvel’s Avengers assembling May 4th, 2012, followed by board-game turned blockbuster Battleship on May 25th. Shortly after that the next launch of the Starship Enterprise (in the J.J. Abrams reboot-a-verse) will be with a Star Trek sequel on June 29th. And one week later? Set your phasers to THWIP! as the Spider-Man reboot swings into place on July 3rd.

Well, there went about 100 bucks in tickets, popcorn, and milk duds.

After being turned down by Emily Blunt and possibly others, Marvel Studios issued a release announcing relatively unknown actress Hayley Atwell has been added to the Captain America cast as Peggy Carter.

Atwell is known to some from her work in A&E’s disappointing remake of The Prisoner, but she has also been seen in The Duchess and Brideshead Revisited.

Peggy Carter was introduced as the Star-Spangled Avenger’s love interest when he debuted in Tales of Suspense #64  (April 1965) and was the original spy known as Agent 13. She was later reported to have suffered dementia and was confined to LarkMoore Clinic. Her niece, Sharon Carter, also dubbed Agent 13, is Cap’s enduring romance partner since Tales of Suspense #75 (March 1966).

Marvel Studios announced today that Hayley Atwell has been cast to star as Peggy Carter in the studio’s highly anticipated movie CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER opposite Chris Evans.  In the early comics, Peggy Carter fell in love with Captain America while they fought together in the war effort.  The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.  Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.  Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce.  The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.
Atwell will next be seen in PILLARS OF THE EARTH, the 8-part miniseries premiering July 23 on Starz and the TV series THE PRISONER.  Her film credits include THE DUCHESS, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED and CASSANDRA’S DREAM.

In addition to CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including the highly anticipated sequel, IRON MAN 2, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow on May 7, 2010, THOR on May 6, 2011, and Marvel Studios’ THE AVENGERS on May 4, 2012.

Joss Whedon to direct the ‘Avengers’ movie?

That’s what Entertainment Weekly is hinting at.

As usual, I’ll believe it when I see much more confirmation, as I’m still old enough to remember when Joss was supposed to direct Wonder Woman.

On the other hand, I’m sure he’d pass muster with Marvel’s crew pretty quickly, and Joss is known for doing well with keeping things under budget, which is always important, particularly with Marvel Studios known tendencies towards penny pinching.
