Vote In The Mix May Mayhem NSFW Webcomics Tournament Sweet 16!
UPDATE: Round 2 voting is over. Vote in Round 3 now!
Boy, I can’t wait to see what the search engines do with “NSFW Webcomics” and “Sweet 16” in the same headline…
It’s Round 2! Your votes and your donations have narrowed the field down to 16 contestants (and you raised $160 for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund) and now it’s time for to vote again. Here are the updated brackets… and remember, be careful when you click through to look at the comics!

And once again, we’re giving you the option to put your money where your mouth is and buy additional votes for your favorite strips. Just click on the Donate button below, and during checkout, click on “Which comic are you donating for?” and detail who you’re voting for. We’re upping the price to 20¢ a vote for this round with a minimum of five votes purchased at a time, and all proceeds from paid votes will go to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, the organization that protects NSFW comics of all kinds from censorship. At the close of the round, we’ll add the paid votes to the totals and announce the winners who move on to the second round.

Why oh why is Oglaf against Artifice T.T
It\’s an elimination tournament. Sooner or later, your favorites are bound to go head-to-head against each other.
Maybe artifice should just buy a win like “mallville” and “blur the lines”. Its obviously not a popularity contest anymore.
Sure it is– it\’s just a popularity contest with a price.
I’m not sure why Between Failures and Dead Winter are in this contest.
Too bad Menagea3 is up against Between Failures – it’s too soon.
I rather like BF, but it stands no competition to the raunchy antics of MA3 – they’re not even in the asame league 8not even in the same baot, as the matter of fact).
Sorry, Jackie, life’s a bitch…
There is no sense having this “voting competition” if you can buy a win!
Absolutely ridiculous…
So it’s not a “voting” tourney, it’s a “Who had the rabid fans with the most money” tourney.
Much as I do understand some folks having an issue with the “donation votes” – I have to say that I had expected/hoped that they would actually be more utilized.
I draw Blur the Lines comics. Do you know what my comics demographic is? Fat, hairy, gay men (the bear community) who dig pervy sex jokes and the occasional gaming/pop culture reference. Yes, my audience will be tiny in comparison to the more “mainstream” NSFW comics, but that’s cool! I have some fans who donated some money last time, and they bought me a win. Groovy. I get more hits to my site and I’ve even managed to get some new fans out of the deal: uber awesome. I don’t make money off my comic, except through donations myself – so yay for DINKs (double income, no kids)!
In truth, when it comes to Donations: let’s take Oglaf as a good example (because it’s my favorite comic on the web right now)… In the first round, it had 1961 votes with no donations. Now, let’s imagine that every fan donated ONE DOLLAR. In the first round, that would have been 10 votes per buck, giving Oglaf 19,610 votes AND the charity $1961 bucks! Holy SHIT!
Say what you will, but I think this could have had awesome potential on the charity front, and hopefully in the future, ComicMix will find a way to word things so that it doesn’t cause angst…
You and Gary do bring up a point we went back and forth on: do we reveal the amount of donations in advance? We felt that if we did that, it really did turn into a \”buying the election\” problem, even with the money going to charity. We felt that by keeping the money undeclared until the end, it made things fairer in that it was a black box voting– you didn\’t know if your donation tipped the balance until the end. We also note that prices per vote are going up each round, and contests will just keep getting tougher and tougher each round, so the money impact gets mitigated.
We\’re still debating whether to reveal cash donation totals before voting ends, and we may still do so in later rounds. We\’re still feeling our way around, trying to make things fair yet fun for everybody, and also trying to do some good along the way.
I can’t donate and buy a vote without feeling horribly bad about it. It’s not “fair”.
I’d rather vote and donate separately as what the $$ going to is a great thing!
I just don’t like the thought of buying wins.. starting to feel a bit like a political vote, haha. You vote for
X candidate while Y buys their way in.
I really wonder why Moon over June is not in the competition. Its more NSFW than most of the other competitors..
Because you were the first person to mention it. No one else had nominated it.Even though we like to think we're well versed in what's out there, we're constantly surprised at what we end up missing.
