In my mind for many years, The Rocketeer comic, and Dave Stevens, and Bettie Page as a part of that comic — were magic unparalleled. Without demeaning the rest of the lives of those 3, that magic is the way they continue to glow for me.

In posing for such photos (some by acclaimed fashion photographer Bunny Yeager), many who were witnesses recall that Page seemed to command these sessions the way a movie director would. Without intending to (and without realizing it either), because of her ingenuity and dominant personality, Page was effectively the creative force controlling much of her own work.I've read a piece about working with Bettie by Yeager, in which she reminisced about managing to raise enough money to be able to hire a really good model to continue experimenting with nude/figure work – which was Bettie. She said she learned quite a lot from that session, mostly things that (i got the impression) Bettie didn't even ralise she was teaching her. While Dave Stevens used Bettie's face for Cliff Secord's girlfriend, in many if not all of his protrayals of her, the body was apparently that of his wife, Brinke. (Brinke mentioned having to lie draped over the living room couch for hours for the painting of Secord with a bound and gagged Bettie over his shoulder.)
