I'll be honest – I was coming here more for the columns than I was for the comics. The comics are good, no arguing, but you had a greatset of writers who gave the site a unique voice. I don't know what the site will look like come Monday, aside from the comics will be good, and based on the last few weeks, the news items will have a lot more typos.I'll be sure to keep checking in for new stuff, just not as regularly as before. Since I haven't seen Rick around either, if you need help with the Doctor Who reviews when they come round again, let me know.

    • Michael Davis says:

Oh Vinnie, I think I will miss you most of all. This journey to OZ would not have been have half as fun without you my friend.

      • Elayne Riggs says:

Dang Michael, that's cold, swiping my goodbye column's byline and illustration reference from just two days ago.Seriously, I'll miss these columns also — I agree with Vinnie, the columns have been my favorite part of ComicMix as well — but don't forget, I have you on speed dial, so watch yourself.Oh, and you're welcome to guest-post at Pen-Elayne any time you want.

        • Michael Davis says:

"Dang Michael, that's cold, swiping my goodbye column's byline and illustration reference from just two days ago." Elayne, I'm Black…from the hood…you leave it out in the open Im gonna take it. If you steal, steal from the best! Oh about 'guest-posting' I'm there!

  2. Rick Taylor says:

    The best of luck, sir.

    • Michael Davis says:

"Luck?" He said checking his guns. "Luck? I make my own luck." With that he busted a cap in 'The Man." Rick, thanks but I'm busier than ever and 2009 will be the 'Sick Of Davis' overkill year.

      • Rick Taylor says:

Michael – I can't let you sign off without telling how particularly touched I was by your column about your sister's death.Having lost far too many people to some really sensleess stuff I was truly moved. We really got to see a different side of you and as one of the posts stated, 'thanks for letting us in'.Peace.

  3. Linda Gold says:

Hope you know everyone in the Gold household loves you immensely. I will miss all the columns but yours most of all. Come East soon so Adriane and I can see you.

    • Michael Davis says:

As soon as a certain meeting is finalized I'm on the east coast with Daddy Gold. Cheer up is going to be cool as shit! BTW-love you 2. Hollywood kiss!!!

  4. Martha Thomases says:

Does this mean you'll have time to catch up on all of your Tivo'd ALL MY CHILDREN episodes and I can ask you what you think about all this stuff going on with Jesse, Angie and Rebecca?

    • Michael Davis says:

I'm still back in Sept. with regards to All My Kids (that's what we call it in the hood) I'm writing so much now (two books and a graphic novel) that the only way to catch up is to have it on non-stop while I work. I tried that and ended up writing passages about Tad and Erica in my book on Black people.So- I'll see what happens. I'm just up to the point where Jessie finds that woman in the hallway and Petey is worried about the Fusion law suit and 'Bella' is making people sick. I will tell you this-I thought NOTHING could make as sick Kendal but that 'army' chick is getting there fast.

  5. Reg Gabriel says:

To Comicmix editors: To almost quote Sally Brown… "WTH???!!" "I've been ROBBED!!!"….followed immediately with a quote from Lucy…" YOU BLOCKHEADS!!!!!!!!" And since I can't emphasize that enough I'll say it again…"YOU BLOCKHEADS!!!!!!"To Michael… Puppy pee??? You got stories and jokes, doc! Blow in my ear and I'll follow you anywhere…… Heeey man!!! What the….!! That was just a figure of speech! On the real serious tip, CM's loss (see above) is our gain. Better put on a large pot of coffee, brother….you're about to receive a lot of company.Peace and thanks for the memories that I've received in this space, Michael. Looking forward to the new ones.

    • Michael Davis says:

Reg-I'm glad you are still down. As a famous Diva once said " Buckle your seat belt, it's going to be a bumpy ride."

    • Mike Gold says:

Mr. Davis will be receiving a LOT of company, indeed.I'll be moving Brainiac On Banjo over to as well… after my final ComicMix column (already written and set) this Monday. I don't think we'll be dropping a single week.

  6. Marc Alan Fishman says:

Wait, seriously… you're black?Thank you for the articles here on comicmix, it's become my friday tradition to pull up your article, laugh my ass off, pretend to work, lie to my boss about surfing the net, go back to your article, laugh my ass off some more, poignantly think about the topic you wrote about, fake working again, go to the bathroom, call my fiance, and then finish your column, whilst laughing my ass off. For all that your shared with us the gentle public, for never holding back with your real thoughts, and for giving us all reason to hate the man, lucky b*tches, crazy politicians… and for giving us reason to love asian girls (well, loving them MORE, I guess…) Thank You, Mr. Davis.Cheers to you, your continued success, and your future patent on the Death Ray… cheers.

    • Michael Davis says:

'Thank you for the articles here on comicmix, it's become my friday tradition to pull up your article, laugh my ass off…' dude. That and I should be yelling at you on some other stuff also.So we will be in touch one way or another Marc.

    • Mike Gold says:

Michael's not black. It's all an act. If his buddies back in NYC knew the truth, wouldn't be in orbit.

      • Michael Davis says:

Not black eh? I got your 'not black' right here. all 4 I, eh I mean 14, no 44 inches.

        • Marc Alan Fishman says:

At some point (probly around 43 inches I'd believe) don't things get awkward? I mean, most asian girls are only 60" tall… meaning a night with Mr. Davis may best be described as pole vaulting.

  7. Dave says:

I suppose this is a money issue – downsizing, but I didn't know any of the columnists were leaving until Denny wrote his goodbye column recently. I thought it was his decision to leave, but apparently not. Did I miss a notice about getting rid of the columnists, or is it up to each one to tell us in thier final column? In any case, I'll miss them. As more and more of the comics wrap up their stories without replacements of equal value to me – The Original Johnson being the exception – or any replacements at all.Soon there won't be much reason to come here as most of the news stories are seen elsewhere. I read them for the comments and the opportunity to discuss the stories, but too often there are no comments which makes discussion a bit hard. Sometimes I try to start a discussion with little to no response. I must be boring. :)All of this leads me to ask, is ComicMix leading for a shutdown? I hope not.

    • Michael Davis says:

'Soon there won't be much reason to come here as most of the news stories are seen elsewhere.'That I really fear may be the case. BUT-don't give up on comicmix yet. I'm not! Those books are still the coolest on the net and who knows what the future will bring Dave.

    • Tyson Durst says:

I really hope not in reference to that last part. I just started up as a contributor here with another interview set for posting on Sunday and more interviews being set up with an aim to cover the broad spectrum of comics.Just wanted to thank Michael Davis and all the columnists for their great stuff. And stay away from the botox, Mr. Davis. I know you live in LA but try, at least:)

      • Michael Davis says:

Tyson,Don't you worry about me and Botox…not as long as there's Ecstasy. I kid I joke….or DO I?hehehehehehehehehehhhhheeeee…evil laugh.

  8. Jeremiah Avery says:

Geesh, the main reason I come to this sit is now absent! I truly enjoyed the columns, they were insightful and also at times quite humorous. Great way to start off the weekend (not like I'm doing a whole lot at work on a Friday). It was great how you (Michael) felt open enough to share some somber events from your past. It really helped convey that people can rise above hardship and still retain some level of mirth. Much appreciated.I'll definitely be visiting your site – because who else has a death ray to keep me in line? Is I stupid? Perhaps. All the best, Michael.

    • Michael Davis says:

Thanks Jeremiah! I'm looking forward to the future and all that it brings. Man that was sappy. Eh,…ASIAN GIRLS. There, I feel better.

  9. MARK WHEATLEY says:

See – I missed Elayne's mention of the end of all the columns. My cat had surgery this week and I've been called away and interrupted so many times for feeding, scratching, cleaning the wounds and just because she wanted to say, "Hl!" (she is barricaded in a small room, located right next to my studio, to keep her from leaping and jumping and pulling out her sutures). And this was a case of my reading the first few paragraphs and then never getting back to it to finish. So I had been thinking, "Wow – that's sad that Denny is quitting." And then I thought, "Huh – what an odd coincidence that John is quitting the same week." And that's when I went back and finished reading Elayne's column. This is sad, guys. And Michael, you is funny and entertaining and smart. I hope you keep your weekly schedule at your own site because I'm going to be coming by every Friday to keep up. And I've got to think you will get pretty good traffic. I hope you sell some ads. Seems like a good way to pick up that milk money. Maybe ComicMix will be able to post a link to your new blog every Friday? Just for old times sake? And I hope you know you always have a place to rest and visit at the Insight Studios booth – in San Diego or any convention where we are setting up.For that matter – I'm looking forward to the comics you are developing for ComicMix!

    • Michael Davis says:

Mark,THAT was VERY nice of you man. If I know you will be on the site then I promise I will keep up as best I can every Friday. YOU are a class act dude. And talented…I hate that. BTW-the same goes from me on the convention front or anywhere I happen to be set up. I'm honored to call you my friend. Damn-that was sappy to…Asian Girls!!

  10. Chris Gumprich says:

Figures. I come to the party just as everyone is packing up and going home. Is it my breath? Thanks for the always-entertaining reads, Michael. I'll see you in your world.

  11. Michael Davis says:

Oh-like the idiot I can be- I forgot to thank the person who has worked her ass off on behalf of this site. Thanks Tatiana! Your contributions have been more than wonderful. Sorry about the half hour deadlines or changing topics. You all that. Oh no…sappy. Asian girls, Asian Girls!!!

    • Tatiana says:

It's been a pleasure creating art for your columns weekly. As Michael has mentioned in his columns on several occasions, Comic Mix truly is a great family to be apart of.I look forward to continuing illustrating and building up your site at Michael Davis World!

      • Michael Davis says:

"I look forward to continuing illustrating and building up your site at Michael Davis World!'Soooo I assume you didn't get the memo about the new artis…

  12. Alan Coil says:

DAVIS, YER AN IDIOT!I've been waiting to use that line for several months. As much as you shoot off your mouth, I figured there would soon be a time when you said or did something incredibly stupid. As I am still waiting, I figured I'd go ahead and use the line so as to not let it go to waste. You are my MOTU, I tremble in fear of your awesome Death Ray, and I'll miss your weekly column the most. Be well.

    • Michael Davis says:

"DAVIS, YER AN IDIOT!" Alan, you CAN say that. I just decided to vote for McCain and I now think Palin is hot. Shoot, because of that you can say "DAVIS, YER AN F***KING IDIOT!Alas, I will continue my rants on: Be there or it's THE DEATH RAY FOR U!!

  13. Hannah says:

I will miss your rants since there was a method to your madness…Tatiana will surely keep me up to date on your rantings… and being an Asian girl, will miss the flattery most of all.

    • Michael Davis says:

So, Hannah…You an Asian girl hun? Be sure to visit me at my hom…I mean at my site every Friday: It's free for Asian girls!

  14. Alan Kistler says:

You know, you and I have never really had a chance to hang out. And this column of yours has made me feel like I got to know a little bit what hanging out with you is like. I dig it and it made me wanna come back for each new one. I'm gonna miss these regular pieces of yours, buddy. It takes a great writer to consistently make me laugh out loud when I'm staring at text at a computer screen.I'm gonna be in LA again soon. We should grab lunch and a beverage. Good luck in everything else you do. I know you don't need it, but it's what we white people say to assuage our guilt. :-)

    • Michael Davis says:

Alan,I'm not dead dude! (Unless McCain wins then it's one to the brain) and I would love to hang out when you are in L.A. I can be reached at: Drop me a line and let's roll! And I'm still gonna be writing every week (sometimes more) so you can get your regular piece of me…wait,' get your regular piece of me'- that just does not sound right…

  15. R. Maheras says:

I feel like a guy who just walked into the theater as the closing credits started whizzing by.What the heck's going on at ComicMix?Regardless, may good fortune continue to smile of you Michael!

  16. Carmen says:

Ahhh!!! Michael, YOU will surely be missed I enjoyed your columns. Sometimes I cried, sometimes I laughed, sometimes I did not know if I was laughing with you or at you "you is funny". Thanks for the memories. This is not a goodbye column this is see ya later at where you can write to your hearts content. Thanks for sharing so much of your life(the good and the bad) with us your loyal subjects. I won't say good luck because as you said in many of your columns YOU MAKE YOUR OWN LUCK. See you and Tatiana's wonderful illustrations soon. You know her illustrations are a big part of your column, Right. I am glad you did not forget her, her illustrations complete your articles.

    • Michael Davis says:

You said it Carmen, She completes me. And you Carmen, you had me at 'hello' …put down the TV, leave and I won't call the cops.

  17. Shane Kelly says:

Hey Michael, Why is it that I had this sneaking suspicion that you were also going to be leaving ComicMix? I was just waiting for the shoe to drop…And drop, it did. It really sucks that you are leaving the site here. This was one of the few ways I was able to shoot the s#@$ with you, since I moved out to Texas. It reminded me a bit, of our days at the Chariot and Corbin Bowl. We would all be partaking of libations and sharing stories steeped in some serious sarcasm, matched only by some of the more poignant ones when life would piss in our cheerios. Then that would all fade into hysterics when "sexual chocolate" would get onstage and sing "I Need a Negro" or some other bastardized Bonnie Tyler song. That is sorta what it was like reading your blogs here. You are, and have always been, a one of a kind, and generous, class act. I am so glad to read that you will be doing your own thing in the vast blogosphere via (consider it bookmarked) and I am really I am amped about your upcoming projects and sooooo looking forward to them. (sigh)I guess, now, I will have to bother you on your cell phone again to touch bases :-pBut, in all seriousness…Thank you Mike for being who you are, and being my friend. I'd like to close out our show here at ComicMix with a few song lyrics that are near and dear to me. It's my favorite song, and seems sadly appropriate here… "It's a quarter to three…There's no one in the place…Except you and me….So, set 'em up Joe…I've got a little story… I thin you should know….We're drinkin' my friend…to the end…Of a brief episode…Make it one for my baby…and one more…for the road"KITShane

    • Michael Davis says:

Shane,You know DAMN well that-THAT is my favorite Frank song ever!!! If I were not a man I would shed a tear, and if you did not live in Texas I would visit you. But dude-TEXAS?? How do I put this…OH HELL NO! Hey, here's a tip about the cell phone try calling AT NIGHT when I may have a moment to catch up. I still remember (those who may think these stories are jokes they are not ) when the cops came into The Red Chariot (a GREAT Karaoke bar) and the music stopped while they looked for whoever the fuck they were looking for. They pointed at me (the ONLY black guy in the bar) and you said "They take you, they take all of us." That was WAY cool and for that I will always have a warm spot for you in my heart. As I said to Mike Gold recently to quote my favorite Vulcan, 'I have and will always be your friend." OH SHIT! SAPPY-remember that time we had to stop those dudes from kicking (can't remember his name…shit) ass? That was fun and NON Sappy! Wait-remember when that porn producer was trying to get my date to act in a film? I still think it was funny when I told him she would do it but he had to pay me…and my gang the Crips. Boy-we found out white men could jump and run that night!Give me a call Sunday NIGHT. Let's catch up. You sexy bitch you.

      • Linda Gold says:

Michael- did you know that it was Fred Astaire who introduced that song? That's my favorite version of it. I'll try and send you a copy.

        • Michael Davis says:

If it was possible to love you more I would if you find that!!!! MAN I LOVE THAT SONG!!

          • John Tebbel says:

Up last night, put on Classic Arts as a headache remedy and was grabbed and shook by a solo Baryshnikov did to one of the Sinatra versions of One for My Baby. Four Stars: Highest Rating.

  18. Mark Behar says:

Thanks for the column, Michael. I'll be sure to check out your website! And I promise to do you solids over there from now on…

  19. Sexy Brown Chocolate says:

Michael:I've read a number of your articles and have had varying comments on each. Some I've loved, some I've cheered for, and some…I've said, "What the heck?"It IS wonderful when a talented Black man like yourself can speak his mind. You've made lots of comments on liking Asian women. HAVE YOU OR WILL YOU EVER CONSIDER SEXY BLACK WOMEN? Depending on your answer, I may go to your direct site. Look forward to your answer, you Sexy man.

  20. Michael Davis says:

Well Sexy Brown Chocolate, I consider all women ( ask my Asian wife ,mixed race girlfriend and Hobbit lover. ) Hey fellas don't hate the playa hate the game, That's just how I roll. All jokes aside I love the sisters. But be warned I'M A FREAK-sisters seem to want normal guys…with jobs. I sit around all day and make shit up and get paid for it. No sister believes that's a real job. I did date Halle Berry…until I got within 50 feet and the restraining order kicked in…Hope to see you at the site…wear something Sexy…and Brown…and Chocolate.

    • Sexy Brown Chocolate says:

Since I write myself, I can believe that we get paid to create things. I'm sure you've read some of my work. I'll update you soon.Stay awesomely darling.

      • Michael Davis says:

Oh! I do so loves me a mystery woman. That is unless you are really a man then I'm a little bit, no make that a lot pissed. Nah-you can be a man that's cool I'm secure in my sexuality. I'm cool with everyone! Except the GOP- you a man and a member of the GOP-THAT would piss me off to NO end.

  21. ed zarger says:

I came to comicmix for Grimjack and Sable (mentioned in an ad for Pittsburgh Comic Convention). And it was good. Then the columns, especially from the exalted motu. And I've been spending so much of my free time reading these columns, I've gotten away from the comics. Gotta fix that. But all of you columnists have been top notch. Thanx.

    • Michael Davis says:

Thanks Ed. I was very proud to be among the other writers on the site. The comics ARE top notch. Hope to see you over at my site. BTW-Zarger is a cool ass name for a character.

  22. Adriane Nash says:

Well you know I love you. And I'll of course look forward to Straight No Chaser over at, but it does beg the question "am I still going to get to proof your columns before they get posted?" (it went up without comign across my desk this week and I notice a "to" that should be a "too")Anyway, I would just like to voice (again) that I miss you & hope to see you soon!!!xoxA

    • Michael Davis says:

Adriane,Whatever you want to do on the site you can. You could rename it Adriane's Damn Site if you wanted. I loves you, you know you my girl! Wait-are you Asian? Oh what the heck, you STILL my girl!

  23. Ian Kirk says:

I started coming to this site for Grimjack & Jon Sable.I subsequently started reading the columns.I religiously read yours, Denny's & Ostrander's. It's unfortunate that the PTBs have opted to end the columns. I'll probably stop coming to the site.

    • Michael Davis says:

Ian, With all due respect to you- the way Mike Gold and company have put this site together and what they have had to do to get the talent here-I think is WELL worth you sticking around. Look, I'm sticking around and they kicked me to the curb. I know, I know…I'm a bit freaky.

  24. Steven Atkins says:

Thanks, Michael. You have all made me laugh, think, and a more complete person in every possible way. I will especially miss you and Denny. Not shocking since Denny was THE Batman writer as far as I am concerned. You always gave a great column. Like Denny's stories and columns, I KNEW I was going to get something special when I came here.I wish you all love, success, and happiness. Thanks again,Steve

    • Michael Davis says:

Steven,In the words or a certain Mr.Vader-" Join me Luke and together we will rule the Universe as father and son." Now we may not be related nor Jedi but I will be at as will Mike Gold so you can get your fix there. Trust me you don't want to miss the article I write after the election.

    • Michael Davis says:

Steven first, thank you very much. Second with regards to this sentence-'I will especially miss you and Denny.'Miss me?? No!! come !There will be punch and pie!

  25. John Tebbel says:

If the Lone Ranger had been on the Internet, at least we'd have had a chance to thank him.And now I see that he probably got to the next town before sundown by riding out when he did. Thanks, Michael. Looking forward to the post-election analysis.

  26. Russ Rogers says:

Micheal, thank you for your columns. There have been SO many that I have found touching, funny, insightful or informative. Sometimes all of that in the same column, occasionally in the same sentence. You, more than any other writer on ComicMix, understand the "magic" of the comments section. Your column consistently had the most comments because you respond to nearly everyone who comments! That's amazing and generous. That's like an author at a book signing taking the time to chat at length with each fan who comes to the table and personalize each signing. And then after the fan reads the inscription and says something else about it, you say, "Just hand that back, I'll add more to that inscription."But it's fun, reading the comments to your columns and seeing the diversions the conversations will go down. It's a joy watching all of that evolve. It's also a thrill being part of the "Michael Davis Show," even if it's just a small cameo in the comments. I'm honored to be mentioned in your list of un-official columnists. You might be a hard person to get a hold of by phone or e-mail, but I appreciate the time you've taken with you column, both in writing it and in responding to the comments. You have made a fan and friend of me, Michael. I will look for your books, movies, TV shows and media companies. And I will continue to read your stuff over at I've got you bookmarked.

    • Michael Davis says:

'You have made a fan and friend of me, Michael. I will look for your books, movies, TV shows and media companies. And I will continue to read your stuff over at I've got you bookmarked.'Russ, you had me at 'friend.' Russ here's my official definition of a friend-A friend is someone you can disagree with and still remain friends. It's a simple thing but effective in the way i deal with life. I think the biggest (now I freak people out by going deep) tragedy these days is the lost of real debate, real conversation and real respect for people's views. Man I LOVE a good debate, but in this stupid 'you are either with us or against us world-there is little debate there is only left or right. You sent me a post once where you told me things about myself that were not favorable but you did it with passion and commitment because you cared. You really TALKED to me. That's way I love talking to guys like MIke Gold and Mike Grell. When those guys talk to you they TALK to you. That is the sort of thing that is solely lacking in this world. I'm blessed to have some real good friends. I really don't have a lot, but those I have 'get me' and that's not easy because like Captain Kirk-"I need my pain.' You understood that by reading what I wrote and took the time to 'get me' by schooling me. There is nothing (except Asian girls) I like better. So I am glad to add you to the VERY short list of people I call friend because what you do understand a bit about a good debate and take the time to really listen.Shit-this is as sappy as it gets but out of respect for you I will try and not lessen the impact by saying something silly about Asian girls.I'm glad you will be at the site Russ, very glad indeed…P.S. ASIAN GIRLS ROCK…I said 'TRY.'

  27. Jeremiah Avery says:

Hello, Michael. I didn't know how to contact you otherwise and I hope I don't sound like a jerk for saying this on here but I tried registering on your site and I received the message that my password would be e-mailed to me, but it never was so now I cannot login! Once again, whitey needs the help of the M.O.T.U.!
