Joker runs wild on the World Wide Web

Joker runs wild on the World Wide Web

As a follow up to our earlier story, the original website where we got a look at Heath Ledger as the Joker, http://ibelieveinharveydenttoo.com has been torn apart, and the only thing that remains is an error that comes up and says "Page Not Found". Pretty standard, right? Think again!

Just for kicks, check out the site and hit control-A (or command-A for all of you Mac users). The Joker seems to have left his mark, even without his face. This fun new marketing technique used to promote 2008’s The Dark Knight seems to keep turbo-geeks like myself filled with wonderment, and I can’t wait to see what’s next to pop up from our friends over at Warner Bros.

Ghost Chimp MD on CBS?

Ghost Chimp MD on CBS?

For some reason, Craig Ferguson, a very funny person in his own right, has allegedly appropriated the work of Kyle Baker, the funniest man in the world.  You can see the evidence at http://myspace.com/ghostchimpmd and at YouTube.

Kyle developed the idea when he was working at Warner Bros. in the early 1990s.

Bob Morales, a frequent Baker collaborator said, "Why do they always steal from the African-Americans? First, blues, then jazz, now Ghost Chimp M.D."

More when we hear about it — and the lawyers weigh in.

U.N.C.L.E. boxed at last

U.N.C.L.E. boxed at last

Last year, DVD provider Anchor Bay announced it was releasing the classic action series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Star Robert Vaughn recorded four hours of supplimentary materlal. And then, they got a nasty letter from Warner Bros. saying "no way, José."

The two companies reached for their lawyers and had a showdown. And now, Warner Bros. won. It seems that in addition to having the teevee rerun syndication rights (their Turner division got it when they bought bits and pieces of MGM), they got the home video rights as well. All that material Vaughn recorded? Gone with the wind.

But in a few weeks Vaughn will be teaming up with his old partner David McCallum to record brand-new DVD extras. Oddly enough, American Vaughn has been working in Britain filming his AMC/BBC series Hustle, while British-born McCallum has been in the States filming NCIS.

The first box set is expected to be out by Christmas… unless one of the lawyers gets a clever idea.

Warner Bros. loves men….Metal Men!

Warner Bros. loves men….Metal Men!

It looks like Warner Bros. Pictures  has greenlit Metal Men and looking to get the final pieces in place. So far, Eric Champnella is slated to write the script. You may or may not remember Champnella’s last picture about Bernie Mac attempting to break his own baseball record while wise-cracking at a bunch of "nuckle-headed kids" in Mr. 3000. I personally can’t wait for a jive talking Iron slapping around the rest of the Metals and calling Platinum his "beeyotch," but they might be going for a different approach.

Slated to produce the picture is Lauren Shuler Donner, who was responsible for bringing X-Men to the big screen as well as the Keanu Reeves movie Constantine. Fingers crossed on this one!

Comic books still rule the movies

Comic books still rule the movies

Comic books continue to lead Hollywood box office business as TMNT, based upon the comics books of the same letters beat out 300 $25,400,000 to a mere $20,500,000 in estimated weekend North American box office receipts.

It was the first weekend for the Turtles’ latest movie venture, and the third for the Frank Miller property. Thus far, 300 has earned nearly a quarter-billion dollars worldwide. Then again, box office totals in Iran are expected to be rather low.

Whereas both movies were released by Warner Bros., neither one is based upon a DC Comics property. DC is a unit of Warner Bros.

Next up: Spider-Man 3, in just a few weeks. ComicMix carried the link to the final movie trailer; scroll down and you’ll find it.

300 @ 152 & counting

300 @ 152 & counting

Frank Miller’s 300 has turned into quite a little motion picture empire, grossing not only a portion of its audience but a whopping $152,000,000 worldwide in its first 10 days of release.

Of course, by "worldwide" we mean that portion of the world that’s showing the movie thus far. Most of the planet has yet to enjoy the experience. By the way, 300 is doing quite well in Greece.

Given a lengthy stay in theaters, openings in the rest of the world, and DVD sales later this year, Warner Bros. is expecting to see well over $300,000,000 in total grosses. Not bad for a flick that cost $65,000,000 to make.

Dark Horse is rushing another 80,000 copies of the original graphic novel to the bookstores.

Late for the Legion

Late for the Legion

Must-read blogger and actor Wil Wheaton has an amusing anecdote about almost missing his latest stint doing voice work as Cosmic Boy in the Legion cartoon.  He also teases, "Sadly, I can’t say anything specific about the episode. Warner Brothers is incredibly serious about protecting the content of the shows, and I’d really like to keep working on them, so I’ll just say, once again, that the level of talent, commitment, professionalism, and ultra-nerdy love for this show at all levels — writers, producers, directors and actors — is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. [Actor’s name redacted] just blew me away today."

Astronaut farmers go to Salvador

Astronaut farmers go to Salvador

Boom! Studios has announced that the writer/director/producer team behind the Warner Brothers film The Astronaut Farmer, set to open on February 23 will be following up by launching a project called Salvador "in the world of comic books."  The teaser gave no further information, but they could be talking about this offering found on the Forbidden Planet international site, and an interview with artist Sebastian Jones seems to confirm it.
