‘Punisher: War Zone’ Director Discusses Film Trailer

Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander recently weighed in on the trailer for the film that was released last week, and she was surprisingly frank about her assessment of the final cut.

She wrote on her website:

I’m not sure what kind of impression I would get from this trailer if I didn’t actually know the film. I am utterly impressed, though, they managed to find that much PG rated action footage at all. It had to be a challenge to cut a trailer from our action stuff without showing any gore and blood.

I’ve been told that you can’t even show heads blowing up in red-band trailers. I hope that’s not true because that would suck. It’s weird to see Castle shoot all those bullets and not see the thugs who are catching them. That’s the best fucking part about it!!!

Alexander also admitted that she was as surprised as anyone else to see the trailer, and addressed some of the Punisher faithful’s cricisims of the peek they received into the film.

Real crime stories and comic books are two different worlds for me. It was my first priority to please The Punisher comic book fans and with all the respect to two wonderful actors, I wasn’t trying to become a member of the Dolph Lundgren or Thomas Jane fan club.

Read the rest of her thoughts on the trailer and fans’ response to it over on her website. Punisher: War Zone is scheduled for a December 5 release.

New Punisher: War Zone photos

Lexi Alexander, director of the upcoming Punisher: War Zone film, recently posted some photos on her website from the set  in Vancouver.

The images provide the first look (actually, a very tiny peek) at Ray Stevenson in the Punisher gear.

It seems that Punisher series cover artist Tim Bradstreet is also providing some input on the film, as Alexander posts an excerpt from one of the messages she received from Bradstreet:

I had an opportunity to see a ton of stills from the film and it looks sensational. The Jigsaw makeup is top. LOVED seeing Doug Hutchinson look like such a hard assed nut, and of course, Ray Stevenson looks AWESOME. They lit a lot of it like I light and [they] did a great job.”

Casting News Notes

Casting News Notes

Comic fans love to play imaginary casting games.  Now that comic book movies have become big business, the folks with real money have the means to make those games come true.  Here’s the latest casting news, both rumored and factual (at least for now):

  • Jessica Biel to play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League movie?  Variety reports talks are in progress.  At least she won’t have to dye the hair this time.  (Oh no, wait, that was Jessica Alba, wasn’t it?  Sometimes all Jessicas look alike to me…)
  • Sarah Paulson of Studio 60 has joined the cast of the Frank Miller-directed The Spirit.  She will probably not be playing Dolphin Girl.
  • English actor Dominic West is slated to play the villain Jigsaw in The Punisher: War Zone flick.
  • The cast of Repo! The Genetic Opera includes Paris Hilton, Sarah Brightman, Paul Sorvino and Alexa Vega.  "Set in the not-so-distant future, the production tells the story of an epidemic of organ failures that devastates the planet, killing tens of millions.  As scientists feverishly make plans for a massive organ harvest program, a multi-billion dollar biotech company called GeneCo begins to manufacture salvation — for a price — offering simple payment plans to those lacking the necessary funds to purchase new body parts outright. But all financed organs are subject to default procedures, including repossession at the hand of the notorious organ repo men." And it’s a musical.  My head hurts just thinking about this one.
  • Lastly, Nichelle Nichols gives some advice to Zoe Saldana on playing Uhura in the upcoming Star Trek prequel movie.

As with any casting news, this could all change tomorrow, so stay tuned!
