‘Mighty Thor’ fights crime in Scotland

God of Thunder: Torvald Alexander confronted the burglar dressed as ThorKenneth Branagh can stop looking for who to cast for his Thor movie. From the London Daily Mail: Burglar flees in terror after homeowner returns from New Year party… dressed as Thor, God of Thunder

A muscle-bound building boss who came home from a New Year’s Eve fancy dress party kitted out as Thor scared off a burglar by charging at him in his superhero outfit.

Six-foot-tall fitness fanatic Torvald Alexander, 38, was wearing a full God of Thunder outfit – complete with flying red cape and tinfoil silver-winged helmet – when he spotted the raider in his front room rifling through a desk.

Mr Alexander, who runs building firm Alexander & Summers in Edinburgh, Scotland, said the burglar threw himself out of a first-floor window of his £350,000 home in the Inverleith area of the city when he opened the door and confronted him.

Lucky Ken. He doesn’t even need a costume designer anymore.

Kenneth Branagh Likes Scope of ‘Thor’

Kenneth Branagh Likes Scope of ‘Thor’

Director Kenneth Branagh spoke with MTV’s Splash Page about his thoughts on adapting Marvel’s Thor to a feature film.  The actor/director signed on several months ago and the movie has a July 2010 release date.

“To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures,” are among the reason he cited for signing on to direct the big budget film. “There’s science fiction and science fact and fantasy all woven into one. It’s based on Norse legends which Marvel sort of raided in a brilliant way.

“It’s a chance to tell a big story on a big scale,” said Branagh. “It’s a human story right in the center of a big epic scenario.”

Even though the internet is filled with rumors about who will play the son of Odin, including Kevin McKidd (Rome), Branagh admitted, “There’s been lots of talk [about casting] — I sound like a politician — but we are too early at this stage. We’re getting the story and the visual effects together and all of that is very exciting. Someone sensational is going to play the part but it is early days.”

‘Green Hornet’ Already Prepping for San Diego

‘Green Hornet’ Already Prepping for San Diego

"Comic-Con is my favorite event of the year," Seth Rogen told Sci Fi Wire. "It’s more fun to me than the movie premieres, than anything. I love Comic-Con. All of our friends come down for it, and we just have a really good time, and it’s always a lot of fun. I would love nothing more than to be able to show something at Comic-Con."

Rogen is meeting this week with Sony executives and director Stephen Chow to begin planning how best to promote Rogen’s Green Hornet feature film at next July’s event considering little footage will be ready.  Filming doesn’t begin until May presuming the actors do not strike in the meantime. The actor has begun exercising and dieting to prepare for the part of Britt Reid, the newspaper executive, who becomes the notorious crime fighter, aided by his chauffeur, Kato (Chow).

"The process has been very collaborative and very good," Rogen said about working with Chow. "He’s given us a lot of ideas. His English is …well, we keep saying when we all come out of this, we will be great communicators. He’s made great strides, I will say. It presents its own challenges at times. We get along really, really well. We are really just starting the process, very little has actually been done. … We’re actually in the very preliminary stages right now."

The movie is slated for a summer 2010 release, in between Iron Man 2 and Thor.

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ Gains Director

Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be directed by Thor Freudenthal (Hotel for Dogs) according to The Hollywood Reporter. Casting continues to find a fresh face to portray the junior high school student who writes the diary. There was an open call back in October with no teen yet selected.

The Fox 2000 film will be produced by Nina Jacobson.

Jeff Kinney’s  characters gained life on the web before Harry N. Abrams’ Charlie Kochman brought the stories to print.  There are now two books plus a related activity title already on sale.  The third book, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw, is due out in January.

The series tell of  “the life of pre-adolescent Greg Heffley, a smart aleck who frequently gets caught up in escapades at school and with his family.”

Miley Cyrus Tackles ‘Babysitting’ Sequel

Miley Cyrus Tackles ‘Babysitting’ Sequel

Remember Adventures in Babysitting, the Chris Columbus teen comedy with Elisabeth Shue? Comic fans were most amused that one of her charges, Sara (Maia Brewton), wore Thor’s helmet throughout the film and Vincent D’Onofrio’s creepy character was nicknamed Thor.

The movie did well enough to spawn a short-lived television series and finally word is out that a sequel is being made.  The star will be Miley Cyrus, according to The Chicago Sun -Times, and the movie is slated for 2010. The Hannah Montana star will appear opposite fellow Disney headline Raven Symone with Tiffany Paulsen (Nancy Drew) at work on the script.

Kevin McKidd Wants the Uru Hammer

Kevin McKidd Wants the Uru Hammer

Kevin McKidd is a hot property right now.  The Rome star is of course ticketed for the big screen version of the HBO series should it actually get made.  Currently, he’s the latest male hottie on Grey’s Anatomy and remains interested in visiting Asgard in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor film.

He told IGN at the  premiere of Punisher: War Zone that there’s been "a lot of back and forth" about the project of late. No formal casting on the July 2010 film has been announced although shooting needs to begin in 2009 for the effects-heavy film to have a chance at making its release date.

“McKidd stressed that the part that he’s up for is indeed that of Thor and not a supporting role,” IGN said.
