Jim Mooney: 1919-2008
Paul Kupperberg tipped me off, Mark Evanier has the news: Jim Mooney, the incredibly prolific penciller and inker of everything from A-Team to World’s Finest, passed away over the weekend.
Jim was best known for his work on Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes in the sixties and Spider-Man in the seventies, but his career spanned from the forties to the nineties, as early as the Eisner-Iger shop and as late as Astro City.
Here, we have a self portrait of himself that he slipped into The Spectacular Spider-Man #41.
He will be dearly missed.
Loved his Supergirl and Dial H for Hero work.
Oh, man, his Dial H For Hero stuff… that stuff slipped my mind. What freaky and great work.
Some great clunky stuff.Thought Robby should've guest-starred with the groovy Teen Titans!Sockamegee!
Dial H for Hero was like the ORIGINAL "Ben 10!"
You KNOW it.
I worked with Jim on several issues of Marvel's GHOST RIDER in the 1970s and other things over the years. He was a terrific artist and just one heck of a nice guy. At a Megacon (Orlando) many years ago, my table was next to his…and I had the best time chatting with him and his lovely wife Anne, who passed several years before Jim.Even in retirement, Jim did the occasional job or commission. One of his last published works will be a FUNKY WINKERBEAN Sunday strip for which he drew the main image. It runs on April 13 of this year.Go with God, Jim, Thanks for all the great comics.Tony Isabella
