We’ve got issues!
Okay, technically we’ve got issue with no "s", but today is a pretty big day for ComicMix.
We have a new design. We published the first installment of one of our comic books online. We added the ability to leave anonymous comments. We added an easy way to listen to our podcast archives. Best of all, we moved the site to an entirely rebuilt publishing platform which will let us release new features over the coming weeks at light speed.
The amazing thing to me is that it’s just a start. It’s everything that comes after today that has me so psyched.
But let’s talk about reading comics online. Our online comic book reader is a browser-based application, similar to Google Maps. There are no plug-ins to install. There are no installers or PDFs to download. Just read our comics online in any modern browser — Internet Explorer 6 and 7, Firefox, Safari, Opera or any Firefox-based browser like Netscape, Camino or Flock.
Our comic book reader has buttons for zooming in and out, skipping to specific pages and for switching between thumbnail mode, one-page mode and two-page mode. It also supports dragging, mouse scroll wheels and key commands like arrows, page up and page down. In fact, you can read an issue from start to finish just by pressing your page down key.
Our small development team did a fantastic job getting all of this ready for launch and even worked in features I didn’t expect we’d have this early.
Finally we get to show off the comics that Mike Gold, Glenn Hauman and the really long list of stellar comic talent that Mike assembled for ComicMix have been putting together for months now.
If you have any trouble with the new site at all — signing in, commenting, using the comic book reader — please let us know.
Sweet. The site looks great Brian! Now I'm off to explore what's going on here some more…
Totally dig the new logo!!
Looks really tight guys. Can't wait to see more features rolled out. And the reader is sick! (in a good way) and I'm not just saying that because I did the visual design ;)
Very nice. All good. Take the rest of the day off!
Take the rest of the day off?!?There is sooooo much more to do. ;-)Thanks for the kind comment.
LOVE the new site and especially the new logo :)
The last thing I want to do is disagree with my buddy Kai, but I miss our old logo *snif*…Other than that, great job on the redesign, Brian and Glenn! My mouse's scroll wheel is very happy. And thanks to Mike for all the wonderful comics content, and for letting me be a part of this site.I'm very psyched to see what's next.
When does the Rick Burchett stuff come out?
It'll probably be a little bit. Rick's got his commitments. But he is, indeed, returning to Munden's Bar…!
The new design is excellent!
I love the new design. This was definitely worth two weeks of overnights. The comic reader is slick!
Does our names lookng like links hint to some future feature?
…mmmmmaybe…
great now I feel like i'm back in a DC Nation panel… with you playing the role of BoB Wayne! Yowza!
Now that's just mean. I'm much taller than Bob.
Great job Brian and co. Very intuitive and easy to read. The future is now.
Like the site design. Much easier to use.
– I meant new site design…
Very nice. Great to see the plans coming together. My best wishes to all at CM.
I love the new look and I like the thinking behind all of this even better! On to Phase III!
You want fries with that?
Geez, don't tell them about Phase III yet– certain people are already nervous.Besides, we don't want to spoil their Christmas present. Especially if it happens at Thanksgiving.
It looks great. Is there a schedule that will appear to tell us what comics will have new installments on what days of the week and so forth?
New installments EVERY week, for FREE. I LIKE typing in CAPS…Monday – Fishhead (starting NEXT Monday)Tuesday – GrimJack: The Manx CatWednesday – EZ StreetThursday – Black IceFriday – Munden's Bar (yep; all-new!)Saturday – The Adventures of Simone & AjaxAnd, yes, that's a new Jon Sable Freelance saga you've been glimpsing at hither and jon. I mean, yon.
I don't know if it was planned or if it's a happy coincidence but the reader looks and works great on the iPhone. Which of course means awesome portable comics.
You know, I haven't tried yet. I've been too busy playing with the website and, in my spare time, editing comics and stuff. But a few of us at ComicMix have iPhones (go figure) and we appreciate you checking it out. Tell your friends.
As the father of an artist, I can sympathize with what these boys are going through. My son was told the same stuff, and yet he stuck with it. So he works with computers to pay his mortgage, but still makes (and sells!) art.
Next question: does the new logo mean new shirts?
Congratulations. Any site that offers Grimjack and Munden's bar totally rocks.
Old logo T-shirts for sale–inquire within.
