ComicMix at Toy Fair: Mattel’s ‘Infinite Heroes’ and ‘Dark Knight’ Showroom!
As promised in our earlier announcement, we have a ton of photos from the ComicMix tour of Mattel’s showroom.
You might have already heard about "Infinite Heroes", Mattel’s new line of 3.75-inch figures based on a wide assortment of characters from the DC Universe, but have you actually heard about it? Check out today’s installment of ComicMix Radio for an interview with Mattel’s "Infinite Heroes" guru, P.J. Lewis.
We’ve also included photos of Mattel’s upcoming line of toys based on The Dark Knight, including figures based on Heath Ledger’s character, Joker, as well as Christian Bale’s Batman. Oh, and for those of you who’ve always wanted a Bat-suit of your own, we’ve got something for you, too.
Finally, we have some photos of Mattel’s line of superhero-incpired toys for their youngest demographic — but we won’t make funof you if you buy a couple for yourself.
So enough with the introduction, check out the full gallery of photos after the jump…
First up is the "Infinite Heroes" line, which seems to have a pretty interesting array of characters. Sure, The Question, Batman/Batwoman and Hush I can understand, but Black Hand? Adam Strange? I’d be interested to hear the discussion during that planning session.
There are also a number of different "Gotham Police Department" figures in the set, including a Commissioner Gordon figure and various figures in riot gear or similar equipment. These are the figures that will be available for individual purchase.
Yes, there’s even a Wildcat figure. Behind that figure is Flash-nemesis Professor Zoom.
These are the figures that will be available for purchase in 3-pack assortments themed around a particular storyline.
I’m not sure about you, but I never thought I’d be able to buy a "Thanagarian Warrior" figure. Any thoughts on what the theme of the Black Adam/Original Flash/Weather Wizard 3-pack is going to be?
Finally, here we have the Commish himself — along with a few bodyguards.
Mattel’s line of toys for The Dark Knight included this multi-purpose "Battlezones Playset" that transforms into four different settings from the film.
The large "Tumbler" vehicle on the left is actually one of the four settings of the "Battlezones Playset" mentioned earlier.
There were quite a few figures from The Dark Knight line of basic figures on display, including a few that don’t actually appear in the film — for example, the Deathstroke and Firefly (top-left) figures seen below.
Mattel’s line of "Movie Masters" figures are "inspired by the likeness of the characters from the film, not the actors themselves." They made it very clear that this was an important distinction when describing figures like the movie-accurate Joker (played by Heath Ledger, of course) seen below.
Each of the figures in this line will come with "Evidence Bags" like the playing cards seen in the foreground.
These are the "Power Tech" line of Dark Knight figures, featuring, well… lots of crazy attachments and things with spring-loaded plastic missiles that you will undoubtedly lose within five minutes of opening the package.
Finally, this is the "Waynetech Mega Cape" with expanding Bat-cape wings. Yes, it actually works, and yes, an adult can wear it, too — please don’t ask how we know that.
Oh, and make sure to look out for this one at the next convention, or you’ll lose an eye every time someone launches into Bat-action next to you.
These are some of the classic DC Universe figures Mattel is continuing to produce, including the upcoming Series 3 line that allows you to build your very own Solomon Grundy figure when you collect pieces from each character in the line.
Yes, that’s a Black Manta figure in the top row, and yes, I am excited about that. Next question?
Mattel also had on display the models for the DC Universe figures seen above. These models are crafted by noted sculptors The Four Horsemen, then the sculpts are reduced to the standard 6-inch size for production. Here we have, obviously, Wonder Woman.
Here is the model for an upcoming Cyborg sculpt.
Another shot of the DC Universe 6-inch figures, Series 2 and 3.
Finally, here are some shots of the "DC Super Friends" line of figures aimed at younger children and several of the plush characters Mattel has on the market.
Be sure to check back here on ComicMix all week for more coverage of Toy Fair! Want to hear more about Mattel’s line of DC Universe characters? Check out today’s ComicMix Radio!
