Roger Price Retires From Mid-Ohio Con
The man who founded the Mid-Ohio-Con, one of the best run and most entertaining of the hundreds of comic book conventions held each year, is retiring after 27 years.
Roger A. Price issued an announcement today that essentially said it was time for a change. Having helped run a large convention (the Chicago Comicon) for merely 10 years, I can certainly sympathize. The man is leaving while on top.
He is entertaining offers from those who might be interested in taking over this classic show. Roger can be contacted at info@midohiocon.com, or at R.A.P. Promotions at P.O. Box 3831, Mansfield Ohio 44907.
Speaking for both my family and for ComicMix, Roger, thanks for all the great fun. We wish you well.
I never made it to one of the shows, but I heard great things about it from everyone else that went year after year. I was in the event business for only a couple of years myself and on a much smaller scale. 27 years is a big accomplishment. It's good to hear that the conference will live on with a new owner.
From everything I've read on the Mid-Ohio Con, I get the impression that it is one show that everyone should try at least once, and the accolades are many. Good luck to whomever takes over the event, they've got big shoes to fill.
I am sad. Mid-Ohio-Con is a mid-sized con that frequently has A-list guests, especially from television and movies.Roger ran a fine convention. I hope somebody buys it and continues the tradition. Thanks, Roger, for all the good times.
Thanks for some great years, Roger! You will always be one of a kind.
MO-C was the closest thing to the grand ol' Chicago Comicon I've attended since Wizard took over that great convention. The scale of guests were grand, the programming diverse, and it was worth a six-hour drive for me. The next guy has some monster shoes to fill. :)
I'd like to add that Roger did most of his own announcements at the shows for years. What a voice! He should have worked as animation voices. I heard once that he worked in radio. After hearing his voice, I couldn't doubt that story.
Roger is a gentleman, a good businessman, a creative guy and a man of his word. And what a great radio voice! He will be impossible to replace!
