Manga genre conventions can be pretty unsubtle... A recent noncanonical installment of Dan Shive's webcomic, El Goonish Shive, which has lots of manga and anime-inspired aspects, and often turns around gender (and trans-gender) relationshipshas a comment on this - Tedd, the most gender-adventurous character in the strip, has purchased a magic wand which doesn't seem to do anything when waved (actually, it does, but it also apparently prevents anyone from noticig any changes), and so, Tess (who was Tedd) tries one mre wave...
