Smallville Almost Begat Supergirl
Actress Spills Beans in Toronto
At the Toronto FanExpo this past weekend, Laura Vandervoort confirmed she would appear in a single episode of the eighth and final season of the CW’s Smallville. Television’s Supergirl also made mention that there had been talk of her character once being considered for a spinoff series. She merely said it didn’t pan out without providing any details.
She did admit to being a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan so working alongside Spike, James Marsters, was a thrill. When she was just beginning her career, she wrote series creator Joss Whedon about wanting to audition for the show, something he remembered when they finally met.
Smallville, with new villains and the same old romantic triangles will return September 18.

This the first I've heard of this being Smallville's final season.
While I've enjoyed some of the episodes, it seems to me that this is a good decision. I bought the first 5 seasons of the series at the same time based on my love of the characters and good things I'd heard about the series over the years. This was a mistake as I'd lost interest by the third season due to character (and relationship) development dragging, similar stories, and a lack of surprises. I never even finished the seasons I bought (I'm sure I will someday), and felt the purchase to be a waste of money - one of few I've made with DVD purchases.
I've since heard mixed opinions of the remaining seasons (Clark still doesn't fly?). Apparently, the inclusion of other DC heroes (Green Arrow, Justice League, Supergirl) have been some bright points, but many have said the series ran out of steam quite some time ago.
Can anyone provide some significant reasons why I should watch the seasons I have and purchase the remaining seasons? I want to like this series. I just feel it hasn't nearly fulfilled its potential.

This show 'jumped the shark' in the first season with it's 'X-Files 90210' approach.
The cute cast has carried some really sub-par stuff.

I'm glad that they are at least bringing her back for one episode this season to finish her storyline, rather than just leaving her in the Phantom Zone. I don't understand why they couldn't have brought Laura back as a recurring character, but hopefully they can still run a good season without her. I thought she was the highlight to last season, in addition to the Veritas storyline.
