Tweeks at WonderCon 2017

WonderCon is Anya’s favorite Con, so even though we were previously committed last weekend to attend the California State Thespian Festival, we made sure to at least stop by the Anaheim Convention Center on the way home.

We had to turn down a bunch of interviews and couldn’t even attend any panels (not even the Voltron one!), but we did, however get 3 hours on the floor before closing. This is what we did and what we saw during those 3 hours.

We also have an offer from you from Comic-Con HQ (which we talk about in the video).  You can use Promo code: WonderCon30 for a free month of their programing! Promo code is available to first-time members of Comic-Con HQ only. Valid through April 31, 2017. US Only. So, if that’s you, enjoy!

Tweeks WonderCon 2016 Adventures

This year WonderCon was in L.A. for the first time. While we are fans of the Anaheim Conventions Center (and not just because they have the best ice cream), it was kind of exciting to try a new convention center out. It wasn’t bad, just a little confusing (as you’ll see in the video, we get lost). But we’re really happy it’s returning to Anaheim March 31 to April 2, 2017!

As you’ve probably seen in our videos over the last couple weeks, we got to meet a ton of really cool people — and don’t worry, we have more interviews to come, but this week you’ll get to see what else we did at the con, like the DC Rebirth press launch, the panels, and the shopping.

Tweeks: SyFy’s Wynonna Earp Cast & Crew Interview Part 3

Welcome to the third and final interview from the Wynonna Earp cast & crew! In this video Anya talks with comic creator Beau Smith and show runner Emily Andras about how the Wynonna Earp TV show came to be, why it’s so special, how it was cast, and what to expect.

Wynonna Earp airs on Friday nights at 10pm on the SyFy channel. If you love westerns and/or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, this is a show you can’t miss.

Also, the comics are really cool too and they are available through IDW!

Tweeks: Wynonna Earp Cast Interview Part 2

Hey everyone….Anya here & I’m back with Part 2 of my interviews with the cast & crew of SyFy’s Wynonna Earp.

This time I talk to Melane Scrofano who plays Wynonna and Shamier Anderson who plays Agent Dolls, the leader of the Black Badge division. OMG they were so nice, as you will see.

This is also a really cool interview because Melanie talks about who she’d like to watch the show and she emotionally talks about how her character is complicated and not only what she appears to be. She’s vulnerable, but can kick butt.

And at around 11:22 they give our Tweeks microphone some love. :)

This is such a great show with great girl hero roles. If you want to watch it it’s on SyFy on Friday nights at 10 pm.

Tweeks: Wynonna Earp Cast & Crew at WonderCon 2016 Part 1

At WonderCon, Anya got the chance to sit down with the cast and crew of the SyFy channel’s newest show, Wynonna Earp. Based on the Wynonna Earp comics by Beau Smith, the show follows Wyatt Earp’s great great granddaughter as she carries on the burden family curse…and also gets to kill evil things.

The show is a bit different from the comics as Wynonna is younger and just gaining her powers. There is also a sister dynamic that has been explained as a little like Frozen meets Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets X-Files.

In this first set of interviews, Anya talks to Michael Eklund (who plays the show’s baddie), Tim Rozon (Doc Holliday), and Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Wynonna’s little sister, Waverly).

One of the coolest things about this interview just might be how much of a comic nerd Tim Rozon turns out to be!

In parts 2 & 3 of the interview Anya will be talking to show runner Emily Andras, comic creator Beau Smith, and stars Melanie Scrofano and Shamier Anderson….so make sure to come back to watch those.

Wynonna Earp airs on SyFy on Fridays at 10pm. It’s also on CHCH in Canada. The show started on April 1st, so quickly….go catch up. It’s a 13 episode series, so you have time!

Tweeks: Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum

Last summer at San Diego Comic Con, we got to sit on the bridge of the Enterprise and learn a little bit about the concept for the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum. Just in the beginning stages, it sounded pretty cool, but when we caught up with the Huston Huddleston the museum’s founder at WonderCon to talk about the progress we were blown away.

Set to open later this year at an existing Los Angeles museum, the Hollywood Sci-Fi Museum has plans to open its own location eventually. This location will feature a space ship restaurant, as well as a museum that will house a hall of cars, a hall of space ships, a hall of robots, and a ginormous store where you can buy everything from Harry Potter wands to Sonic Screwdrivers. It will also have sections for all the movies and shows in the genre. And there will also be an education component (you know, real space stuff & STEM) so it would totally be field trip worthy. Plus, being in L.A., you’d have to imagine all the studios would want to have exhibits for their movies coming out and that sort of thing. Are you sold? Are you planning your vacation already?

In this week’s episode, we feature conversations we had with Huston Huddleston, museum board member and sci-fi art designer Tim Earls (Babylon 5, Serenity, Star Trek), and Farscape actress and museum supporter Gigi Edgley. More information on the museum can be found at www.hollywoodscifi.org or if you are going to ComicCon in July, they will have booth full of cool exhibit photo ops & more info there as well.

Tweeks: Cosplay Dreams

11148818_799706823458348_1607683491225468985_oOne of our favorite parts of attending cons is watching the cosplayers.  We know that not everyone is a fan, and that’s too bad, because it’s such a creative way to show fandom.  Though maybe after watching the documentary, Cosplay Dreams 3D, those who haven’t embraced cosplayers will.  The film focuses on cosplay celebrities as well as those who just do it as a fun hobby.  It’s the stories about the people under the costumes that really make the movie.  Though the 3D effects and really cool costumes don’t hurt either.

At WonderCon, we not only got to see a screening of the movie, but we also had a chance to interview the filmmakers Christine and Gulliver Parascandolo (who are San Diegans like us — so we get why they would be inspired by Comic Con to make this movie). It’s very much Tweeks-Approved and once you watch our review, we know you’ll want to watch.

If you want to see Cosplay Dreams, you can find out where it’s playing on their Facebook Page.  Upcoming showings are at the LVL UP Expo in Las Vegas on May 31st or on the opening night of the New Media Film Festival in LA.

Tweeks: WonderCon 2015 Haul Part Deux!

This week we bring you the second half of our WonderCon Anaheim Haul! Most importantly we review two new Tweeks-Approved comics for kids…and yes, we guess, even adults.  Both are very different, though they both have monsters.  In William Lykke’s Death-Danger Scooter Girl, Number 1 there a bikini-wearing goddess and her monster husbands and half-monster babies and lots of driving around on a scooter.  While in  Top Shelf’s Monster on the Hill by Rob Harrell, we have depressed monster, the village who needs him to terrorize them, and an unlikely doctor and stowaway newsboy who are sent to fix the problem.

As as a special treat, you also get to hear Maddy’s weird sneeze and find out which other Top Shelf comics we love.

Tweeks: WonderCon Haul Part 1

As you can imagine, we bought a lot of stuff at WonderCon.  And if you know anything about tween/teen YouTube viewing habits, you know hauls (shopping show & tells) are key.  So, this week we bring you Part 1 of our WCA Haul! We’ll show you which geeky chic items we’ve added to our collection and which “vintage” comics caught our eye. We also review Joie Brown’s Heavenly Kibble Guardian Corgi issues 1 & 2 and Crystal Cadets by Anne Toole and Katie O’Neill.

Stay tuned for Part 2 (maybe even part 3 — we took home a lot of comics) for more reviews.
