Halcyon to Produce ‘Terminator Salvation’ Video Game

Halcyon Games has won the license to develop a third-person shooter videogame based on Terminator Salvation.

A release states that “the game offers players the chance to assume the role of John Connor, a soldier in the resistance, battling for survival against the far superior forces of SkyNet. Terminator Salvation – The Videogame is a third-person action game with concentrated armed combat against all of the SkyNet enemies from the film while encountering new enemies specifically designed for the game. The game was developed by GRIN Studios, published by Equity Games, co-published by Evolved Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

"Terminator Salvation – The Videogame allows players to battle for survival against SkyNet enemies utilizing an incredibly fluid and realistic control set," said Cos Lazouras, President of Halcyon Games. "The player will be led through a visceral story with extremely polished production values to create a fully interactive Terminator experience."

"Building on the incredibly strong franchise, Terminator Salvation – The Videogame will be a cinematic gaming experience that complements the upcoming film," said John Quinn, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Operations, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Working with Halcyon and Equity Games, we will expand on the Terminator universe on next generation consoles with action packed gameplay and detailed environments."

Arnold Schwarzenegger may well have shot a cameo for McG’s Terminator Salvation film according to Total FIlm.

“We’re trying to synthesize a human character with a CGI character and that may or may not have something to do with the T800,” McG told the site. “At the moment it’s not good enough,” he said. “And we’re running out of time.”

The synthesis being attempted by Industrial Light & Magic have not been deemed successful.

Meantime, Moviehole says that McG took advantage of the film’s ending being leaked to alter so there will be surprises. “That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.”

Diesel, Cohen Reunite for ‘XXX 3’

Michael Ferris and John Brancato, the men behind the Terminator Salvation script, are negotiating to write the third XXX film, The Return of Ander Cage. Vin Diesel is on board as is director Rob Cohen, according to Variety. Once Columbia had the principals of the first film in place back in September, they got a quick approval from Revolution Studios.

Both Diesel and Cohen skipped XXX: State of the Union which flamed out with Ice Cube as the extreme sports star turned espionage agent. Similarly, after missing the second and third films, Diesel will be back behind the wheel for the fourth Fast and the Furious film, due out next June 12.

Some Wonder Woman news popped up over the weekend.  First, there was Beyonce Knowles telling Geoff Boucher at the Los Angeles Times that she’d love to portray the Amazon Princess.

"I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?" she said.

She has appeared in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Dreamgirls, and Cadillac Records in addition to her pop music career.  Knowles indicated she has personally expressed her interest to both the studio and representatives at DC Comics.

The shapely and fit performer was ready for the revealing and tight tradition outfit as first designed by artist Harry G. Peters.  "I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was sooo fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it’d be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy."

The 27 year old also noted, "When you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy."

IESB is reporting rumors that Warner Bros. may be circling back to McG to direct the long-stalled movie.  The man is currently in post-production on Terminator Salvation and was scheduled to direct the Superman reboot before walking off the project prior to Bryan Singer’s involvement. He was also interested in The Losers which went to Tim Story before the studio reassigned it to Sylvain White.

“Let me be very clear about this, I don’t know if he has been signed on or if his is just one of the names being circulated by the studio or if in fact it’s McG himself lobbying for the gig. Could be any of the three,” the site wrote.

“I double checked with a few other industry insiders and after a few phone calls they confirmed of hearing his name circling Wonder Woman as well.”

Moviehole quoted an incident between actress Linda Hamilton and a member of TheArnoldFans.com and now speculation has heated up again that she will reprise her role as Sarah Connor in Terminator Salvation.

It was that site where the rumor first surface some time back but was quashed by Hamilton’s spokesman.

Apparently, one of the site’s reps ran into Hamilton at a convention and raised the issue once more.

“We’ll see”, Hamilton responded.

Well, that’s all the Internet generally needs to run rampant speculation all over again. After all, she was playing coy and we already know director McG has completed principal photography and is into post-production on the May 2009 release. So, if she really was going to appear in a flashback of some sort, it’s most likely already in the can.

There’s nothing like reading a butt ton of Hollywood news in the morning. Nothing, that is, save for the smell of napalm. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter had their workshop elves up late last night as a whole slew of news pours in today. Because we love you, we’ve summed up the bigger points to make it easier on you fine folks. Feel free to send us baked goods in return.

  • Steven Soderbergh will direct Cleo, a rock ‘n’ roll musical about the life of Cleopatra. Catherine Zeta Jones and Hugh Jackman are being courted to star as Cleopatra and Marc Antony respectively. Soderbergh and Zeta Jones have teamed up previously on Traffic, but this will be the director’s first pairing with Jackman who will appear in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming musical epic Australia.
  • An adaptation of Electronic Arts’ videogame Army of Two is setting up at Universal Pictures with Bourne Ultimatum co-writer Scott Z. Burns scripting. Variety mentions in its sub-headline that Peter Berg may direct, though there is no further mention of it in the article. Army of Two would add to his already busy film slate that includes Dune and Radical Studios’ Hercules. Universal, which has already acquired BioShock with Gore Verbinski, is looking at Army as a "buddy film."
  • Believe it or not, Ripley’s Believe It or Not breathes new life this morning. Variety reports that Chris Columbus is in talks to direct the Jim Carrey film about columnist-explorer Robert Ripley. News comes in after Tim Burton’s China-based botched attempt in 2007. That storyline has been dropped in favor of Columbus’ pitch. Once his deal is closed, Paramount will hire a writer for the project with an eye at a 2011 release. It’s hoped that Ripley will spawn a franchise.
  • Looks like The A-Team is in for a bumpy ride, as long attached director John Singleton has pulled away from the project. Originally set for a June 2009 release, Twentieth Century Fox now pegs the film for June 2010. No word on how casting will be affected, though Tyrese, oft rumored as B.A. Baracus, has close ties with Singleton, which could prove hopeful for Ice Cube advocates. Fox has also relocated Dwayne Johnson’s Tooth Fairy from June 2009 to November 2009, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel (no, we’re not kidding) is on track for Christmas Day 2009.
  • Director McG will direct Dead Spy Running based on the upcoming spy novel by Jon Stock. The novel reportedly "aims to reinvent the spy genre," described as a mix of "The Bourne Identity with the works of John Le Carre." McG would direct at least the first installment in a planned trilogy and produce alongside Jeanne Allgood of Wonderland Sound and Vision. McG is in the midst of post-production work on Terminator Salvation.
  • Crispin Glover will play the Knave of Hearts in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland for Disney. The Knave is put on trial for stealing the Queen of Hearts’ tarts and is is defended by Alice. The actor joins Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter on the Lewis Carroll adaptaion. This will be Glover’s second experience with performance-capture technology, the first being Robert Zemeckis’s Beowulf.
  • In HBO news, Gary Cole joins the cast of Entourage as Hollywood agent Andrew Klein, Ari Gold’s (Jeremy Piven) oldest friend. Cole will first appear in a three-episode arc in the currently airing fifth season, then return as a series regular for next summer’s sixth season. Klein could step in as Vinnie Chase’s new agent, as the foul-mouthed Gold was offered a studio executive position in the series’ most recent episode. The news comes one day after Variety announced a seventh season of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, also on HBO. Curb is HBO’s longest running series.

McG reports on the Terminator Salvation blog that principal photography has wrapped and the crew has now moved on to Post-Production as they work toward their May 9, 2009 release date.

"We wrapped principal photography. Now we’re heavy into post. I’ve already shown early cuts to Christian [Bale] and Sam [Worthington]. They seem pleased with where the film is headed. Our focus is on story and character, but its fun diving into the world of visual effects.

“Charlie Gibson is aware of his responsibility as the VFX supervisor and second unit director of this film. He works with ILM and Asylum every day and makes revisions to the finest detail. We want the patina of the machines to be dirty and heavy and perfectly realistic – that’s why we built so much practically with Stan Winston.

“But at some point the effects kick in and like any Terminator fan, Charlie wants his mind blown. There’s one sequence in particular where we’re trying to achieve something that’s never been done before. I don’t want to talk about it because we haven’t been successful yet…But we’re working on it.

“Christian and Sam bring power to the rolls of John Connor and Marcus Wright. This is a story of two destinies colliding. Connor is part of a resistance comprised of the ethnicities that make up the globe. This film is so much more that just Los Angeles. It reflects the global crisis of man, all of man versus machine."

No word yet when we’ll see a full trailer for the feature but you can bet we’ll be seeing exclusive scenes on Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles now that the series has a full season order.

Cameron: ‘No Blessing’ on ‘Terminator 4’

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Terminator Salvation director McG spoke to E! Online about the upcoming installment in the franchise. During the interview, he mentioned how James Cameron imparted his blessing upon the new director’s vision for the series. Longtime fans had previously been squeamish about the former Charlie’s Angels helmer bringing his perspective to the beloved science fiction world that Cameron had so carefully crafted. But the combination of high profile casting, solid early footage and this news of Cameron’s approval stole many disheartened sighs from nervous fans and replaced them with hollers of anticipation.

If that was a deal breaker for you, then you might wanna sit down for this one. James Cameron himself is denying that he ever gave McG his seal of approval.

"It could be a big steaming pile or it could be brilliant," Cameron tells the National Post. "Sam Worthington is in the Avatar and the new Terminator and he likes the script, but I never saw it. There was no blessing involved."

Is Cameron’s blessing completely necessary? Maybe not. Plenty of folks get married without parental approval, and they end up being nice and cozy in their new life. Why should Terminator be any different?

The real worry here is that McG fibbed about Cameron’s seal of approval. Perhaps he confused earlier words from Cameron as a blessing. Maybe he felt he needed to lie to win over the skeptics. Either way, devoted Cameron stalwarts are bound to be troubled by this news.

Shawn Christensen, lead singer for stellastarr*, has sold a science fiction screenplay to Warner Bros. in a pre-emptive deal.  The studio, according to Variety, is fast tracking the project which they have assigned to producer Dan Lin.

Karma Coalition is said to be about a falsely accused fugitive who embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his wife’s death before the world comes to an end. Christensen is said to have written this while recording the band’s forthcoming third album.

Lin is also producing several comic book-related projects such as the stalled Justice League film and the adaptation of Image’s Hiding in Time. Lin is also a listed executive producer on the studio’s Terminator Salvation.
