Tweeks: SDCC 2017 Recap

We know you’ve been seeing some of interviews over the last couple of weeks from SDCC, but this week, we thought we’d give you a peek at what we were doing when we weren’t locked up in the press rooms at the Hilton!

We talk about The Tick (which starts on Aug 25th on Prime), take you on the IMDboat and to the Graphix & Nat Geo parties, introduce you to Amazon Rapids (a really super cool reading app for kids that reads like a screenplay), talk about the Her Universe Hot Topic Fashion show, ask Qmx about their newest collectables, and you know, other stuff too.

Tweeks Review Raina Telgemeier’s Ghosts

As you know, we’re HUGE Raina Telgemeier fans! Last month, her latest graphic novel, Ghosts was released by Scholastic and it really should be on everyone’s reading list this October!

Ghosts is about Catrina whose family moves to Northern California because her sister has Maya’s cystic fibrosis. As the sisters try to adjust to their new town, they meet Carlos who teaches them all about the ghosts who reside there too. Maya’s down with meeting ghosts, but Cat not much. Read the book to find out how it all goes down.

We also talk about how we feel about ghosts and about where this book rates with among our other Raina favorites!

Tweeks: SDCC 2015 Part 2: The Haul!

This week is our 2nd San Diego Comic Con Recap…and our HAUL!  See all our stuff (well, most of our stuff) we got at the con, watch us play KISS pinball,  & hear our exciting stories about the Scholastic Party, meeting Jem, the fashionably nerdy mixer,  Holland Roden, Snoopy & Belle in fashion, & a lot of other stuff.

Tweeks: Drama Over Drama #ChallengedChallenge Week 2

It’s Week #2 of the Comic Mix Challenged Challenge! We talk about Drama by Raina Telgemeier, why some parents wanted to ban in school libraries, and why this drama over Drama isn’t about “sexual inappropriateness” it’s about homophobia. As middle schoolers (8th grade in the Fall, y’all) who are active in drama club, we break down why Raina got this book totally right & why people need to catch a clue as to what actual kids can and cannot handle. Spend an ordinary day in even the best middle school and you’ll quickly realize your kids see/hear/say/do many things more shocking. We suggest perhaps banning middle school.

Anyway, watch our video, learn about why this book is a great read for kids 8 & up, and support organizations like the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund so that all parents can have the choice to choose what their kids read.

Oh and also….when is someone going to make a movie based on this book? We need a movie! Or a TV show on ABC Family.

Tweeks Review: Sisters by Raina Teglemeier

SISTERS-PB-Cover_FINALAs Tweeks! viewers know, Raina Telgemeier is one of our all-time favorite authors, so we were  excited from the second we heard she would be writing another book about the autobiographical characters from Smile.  And then when we found it was called Sisters?!  How much more perfect does it get, right?  So, the question is, does Sisters – In stores today! – hold up to the hype? Um, yes! Get yourself to a bookstore, tweens!

Tweeks: #SDCC Interview with Writer/Artist Raina Teglemeier

14341642465_9cf3a11985_nRaina Telgemeier just might be the best middle grade author in the whole world.  She’s also probably the nicest author in the whole world…and maybe even the nicest person ever.  During San Diego Comic Con, she took some time to sit down with us to talk about her new book Sisters (check out our review Tuesday!), her other books,  what it’s like to write graphic novels for kids and how to get started as a comic artist and writer.  We ask her all the questions her readers want to know in this in-depth interview.  We love our job!
