And now, Marvel has let him do exactly that.

Daniel M. Kanemoto is an award winning writer/director whose diverse body of work
(from feature films to national commercial campaigns) has been featured
on television channels and film festivals around
the world. After attending this year’s Comic-Con and being taken by Drew Struzan’s “Walking Dead” poster for the series, he was inspired to animate a spec version of the opening credits, using the original art straight from the comics by illustrators Charlie Adlard and Tony Moore. What he completed is an amazing professional opening credits sequence that should, quite honestly, replace whatever AMC has planned for their sequence. And while this is utterly and completely a fan-made work, it has already garnered the attention of Tony Moore who said on the Vimeo page featuring the work “this seriously blows my mind. i’ve scarcely seen
my artwork brought to life like this, and never with such style.” Check it out for yourself, and if Robert Kirkman or Frank Darabont get wind of this…see if you guys can pull some strings to get this on the show when it airs Halloween Night at 10pm EST. Or at least hire this guy. Oh, and the choice of “Fresh Blood” by Eels is FANTASTIC.

Rockstar Games’ western epic, Red Dead Redemption, is getting new downloadable content on September 21st. The ‘Liars & Cheats’ pack includes new multiplayer mini games such as Liar’s Dice and Poker. As a bonus, the Free Roam content (originally planned as a free download) will be included with this pack, expanding the game’s free roam multiplayer options.
According to Rockstar, the pack is no longer free “due to the platform
networks’ restrictions on numbers of free packs we [Rockstar Games] can give away”, but adding it to the previously announced ‘Liars & Cheats’ pack without any additional charge is awesome. The entire pack will be $9.99 on Playstation Network or 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

As a zombie fan, no other comic series has appealed to my apocalyptic sensibilities more than Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead”. After hearing the AMC would be making a television series of it (helmed by “Shawshank Redemption” director Frank Darabont) well, my little nerd heart exploded like a zombie headshot. Now the series has a premiere date (fittingly set at 10pm on Halloween night) and a debut trailer. if you were at the San Diego Comic Con, this is the same trailer you saw. If not…well, salivate with brain-lust at the visuals and story herein. Halloween can’t come fast enough.
Fans in attendance at the fifth annual Star Wars Celebration got a sweet and soulful treat, when George Jefferson Lucas debuted the upcoming BET series, BlackStar Warriors. The series, which follows the misadventures of Lando Calrissian and his honky partner Han Solo (and some tall whiny dog-man) as they (mainly Lando) deal with ‘the Man”.
After the series trailer debuted to a packed audience, the fans erupted in acceptance. “Finally, a brother gets the spotlight!” acclaimed one fan, known to many as ‘Hooper X’. Others in attendance had chimed in as well. “It’s good to know, in this era of new equality, that the Black Man can finally get his geek on.” said the Reverend Al Sharpton, who showed up for the even shortly after hearing of its existence. He went on to say “…While I don’t know what this ‘Star Wars’ hoopla is about, I’m personally taking credit for the expansion of this once all white universe to better include the Black Man.” Later, the Reverend was screened the original trilogy, and has since taken back his comments.
While we know all of you around the country may not have been able to make it out to Celebration V, we here at ComicMix wanted to treat you to the trailer anyways. So, lean your chair back real low… pour yourself some Courvoisier and enjoy the (space)funk.

Attention all you Left Coast comic fans, with a love for the ladies! At the upcoming Long Beach Comic Con, you can attend the 2010 LuLu Awards. Brought to you by the recently reinvigorated Friends Of Lulu, the LuLu’s celebrate female creators in comics, and gives them a boost within the community in hopes to not only recognize the good work contributed by women in the field, but to also extend the readership of the comic reading community at large. Let’s face face it guys… a few extra ladies coming out to the shop on Wednesday’s would sure help us earn some cred with those snobby LARPers, right?

Fans can suggest their favorite XX chromosomed creator for such awards as the Kim Yale Award for Best New Talent, LuLu of the Year, Woman of Distinction, the Leah Adezio Award for Best Kid-Friendly Work, Female Comic Creator’s Hall of Fame (this year’s winner joins one of my personal favorite creators, Gail Simone!), and Best Female Character.

“Gunnerkrigg Court” doesn’t need me to play its publicist, but then again, a little extra publicity never hurt anyone. (Unless you’re Kate Gosselin…Ahem!) This webcomic has truly earned its fame and fans. It offers a crisp look, detailed environment, fine-tuned story.. everything that ultimately captivates the audiences.
Created by Tom Siddell, “Gunnerkrigg Court” follows the adventures of Antimony “Annie” Carver, a model for calm and collected characters. After the death of her mother, Annie enrolls in Gunnerkrigg Court, a boarding school devoid of nature and saturated in artificiality. The Court is filled to the brim with friendly robots, magical creatures, secretive teachers, lively students, and mystery; don’t forget the mystery. Although Annie is more comfortable around ghosts and shadow creatures than her fellow students, she soon befriends the outgoing, techno-savvy Katerina “Kat” Donlan. Together with her companions, Annie explores the Court to unveil the truths hidden within its walls — Why are the Court and Woods divided? Who exactly is Reynardine? Where is Annie’s father?
Siddell has worked on the webcomic for over five years, and avid readers are still hanging on every update, hoping to discover answers to the mysteries that plague the Court.Siddell assures his audience that by the end of “Gunnerkirgg Court,” all major mysteries will be solved. The creator throws his readers bones (i.e. clues, hints, explanations) throughout the story, some of which you may not notice unless you’ve read through the webcomic more than once. Now don’t let all this talk about mysteries intimidate you. If you’ve developed the impression that “Gunnerkrigg Court” will leave you unsatisfied due to a lack of answers, then please don’t fret. A substantial number of answers have been revealed since the start of the webcomic, and trust me, the unanswered questions are nowhere near as frustrating as LOST’s.

Hear ye, hear ye! WYSBR is now in session! I hope everyone has been keeping up with their webcomic reading. There are many webcomics to explore and rave about, so lets not waste any time. We’ll start this segment with a personal favorite of mine: Lackadaisy.
Created by Tracy J. Butler, this webcomic takes place in St. Louis during the 1920’s Prohibition. Lackadaisy focuses on the adventures that ensue when running a speakeasy, an establishment that illegally serves alcohol. The stakes are high as characters risk everything to save their cherished speakeasy from being crushed by the competition.
You may be wondering why the characters are a bit on the furry side. Butler’s characters are all anthropomorphic cats, but don’t let that give you the wrong impression. These aren’t the type of furries that make you wonder what the heck “yiffing” is. You can’t help but be charmed by these fluffy cats. Each character has a unique personality that is projected through smart, snappy dialogue and wonderfully detailed expressions.
Speaking of details, Butler never holds back when it comes to detailing every aspect of Lackadaisy. Clothes, furniture, vehicles, and architecture are exquisitely designed to capture an American 1920’s atmosphere. The talented Ms. Butler sucks readers into Lackadaisy‘s lively St. Louis, which is fine with me because it’s an exciting, dramatic place full of colorful characters.
For the past few years, Lackadaisy has gained attention, praise, and thousands of fans. Butler’s webcomic won her the 2007 Webcartoonists’ Choice Awards for Outstanding Newcomer, Artist, Character Rendering, and Anthropomorphic Comic. More trophies were added to Butler’s cabinet after winning the 2008 Webcartoonists’ Choice Awards for Outstanding Artist, Black and White Art, Character Rendering, and Website Design. Many people would agree: Lackadaisy is full of win.
If you like the roaring 20’s, cool cats, or impressive webcomics in general, then give Lackadaisy a read. Chances are you’ll find something you love about it.
