Come March, just as Battlestar Galactica signs off after four amazing seasons on Sci Fi Channel, Tokyopop will be releasing Battlestar Galactica: Echoes of New Caprica, a Manga anthology volume that will feature stories from the Cylon occupation and human escape from New Caprica by a variety of creators, including Richard Hatch, who has appeared in both television editions.
UDON Studios produced the cover art but full contents have yet to be revealed.
Tokyopop has been reaching out to new readers through licensed Manga starting with Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Last month, they announced CSI: interns for release next September. Written by Sekou Hamilton with art by Steven Cummings (Pantheon High), spotlights a group of teenagers taking part in an internship program at the Las Vegas Criminal Investigations Unit under the eyes of Gil Grissom and Catherine Meadows.
Other licenses to date include Labyrinth and Ghostbusters.
IDW Publishing is holding its first ever sale of comic books and graphic novels at its San Diego headquarters on Saturday, December 6, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This is a fantastic opportunity for comic book collectors to scoop up some real bargains and hunt down some rare titles they may have missed, including some limited editions and signed copies – all at bargain prices. There will be surprises and giveaways with every purchase.
A number of comic book creators will be on hand offering free autographs on their work, including Ben Templesmith (Wormwood, 30 Days of Night), Chris Ryall (Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show, Zombies vs. Robots), and Chris Mowry (Transformers).
The sale gives IDW a chance to thank fans for their continued support and for helping with the company’s phenomenal growth over the past few years. IDW was recently ranked No. 4 comic book publisher in the United States by Diamond Comic Distributors.
The sale is primarily intended to free up space in IDW’s warehouse for the company’s expanded and exciting line up of titles in 2009.
“Our warehouse manager is literally buried,” says IDW’s Chief Operating Officer, Greg Goldstein. “After 10 years of publishing, it’s only natural that the boxes have piled up because of accidental print overruns, books that were set aside as office copies, books intended for reviewers and others earmarked for promotional purposes. Time to get them out of here.”
The sale will be held in IDW’s parking lot, 5080 Santa Fe St, San Diego, CA 92109.
IDW is offering new comics for $1 each (Reg. $3.99 cover). Titles include — subject to availability — 30 Days of Night, Transformers, Star Trek, Wormwood, Spike, Fallen Angel, Dr. Who, Scarface, Gene Simmons, Metal Gear Solid, Clive Barker, Zombies vs. Robots, and CSI.
Trade paperbacks / collections will be $5 each (Reg. $19.95-$24.95 each).
Other books, comics and magazines will be up to 80% OFF cover price.
Most items are brand new; some with nicks and dings.

Much to our collective surprise, NBC has ordered four additional scripts for the revival and reviled Knight Rider. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series’ ratings have been somewhat encouraging after a few airings.
Meantime, producers of Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, report they too have reason to be hopeful.
On the show’s official blog, they wrote: “Because so many of you, our most devoted fans, have been asking, we wanted to set the record straight!
“While the fate of the show past production on episode thirteen is still unclear, FOX has given us the go-ahead to write two more additional episodes for this season — fourteen and fifteen.
“We are hard at work writing those episodes and await news of a potential pickup for the full ‘back nine’ (additional episodes to complete the season) in the near future. We’re crossing our fingers (and dotting our i’s) that we’ll have more good news to share with you soon…
“In the meantime, keep tuning in! Get your friends interested! And thanks for all of your support.”
Meantime, its companion series, Fringe, has been given a full-season pick-up.
Last Thursday night, ABC debuted its adaptation of Life on Mars, opposite CBS’ adaptation of Eleventh Hour. Much has been made of both shows’ pilots being almost shot for shot remakes of their British counterparts.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, “None of this stopped viewers tuning in with all the shows scoring strongly in the overnight ratings despite a real mixed bag of reviews ranging from the scathing to the glorious.” This also includes NBC’s Kath and Kim, remaking an Australian sitcom that received horrendous reviews from coast to coast.
“Though fourth in its timeslot, the show did grow from the 4.6/7 rating lead-in of My Name is Earl. This is very shaky ground however and coming weeks, not to mention the word of mouth, will determine if it will stay on the schedule,” the paper noted.
Eleventh Hour was second in the competitive 10 p.m. slot, following Life on Mars. Some concern was raised over the new series losing half the audience from the previous show, CSI. In third was NBC’s ER, now in its final season.
Of the shows debuting Thursday night, the best reviewed, and cast, was Life on Mars. “Audiences seemed to dig it though with the pilot scoring a 8.2/14 rating – winning its timeslot and coming third for the night. Better yet it managed to maintain over 80% of its lead-in audience from Grey’s Anatomy,” the trade noted.
The Hollywood Post Alliance Awards announced the nominees for the third annual award presentation for excellent in post production work. In a few short years actress Jamie Chung has began to establish herself as one of the most sought-after young actresses working in Hollywood. From her first apperance as a cast member of MTV’s Real World San Diego through appearances on Days of Our Lives, Veronica Mars and CSI: New York, Jamie’s career continues to advance into bigger and more challenging roles.
More recently, Jamie is co-starring as Chi Chi in the Dragonball feature film based on the hugely popular media franchise and will be starring in ABC Family’s mini-series Samurai Girl, which debuts in September, as the title character Heaven. We caught up with Jamie recently at the San Diego Comic-Con to talk with her a bit about Samurai Girl, her character and how she feels naked without a sword.
COMICMIX: Hi Jamie, thanks for talking to us.
JAMIE CHUNG: Sure, my pleasure.
CMix: So, tell us a bit about your character in Samuari Girl.
JC: Sure. She’s a 19 year old girl named Heaven who’s adopted by one of the wealthiest families in Japan. During some tragic events she ends up finding out her family is influenced by the Yakuza, the Japanese mafia.
In an effort to find out how involved her family is with the mafia, she also discovers that she’s a part of some ancient prophecy which leads her to question who she really is and makes her go a journey of self-discovery to find out the truth about herself and where she comes from.
He’s Marc Guggenheim, and if you didn’t know him from Brothers & Sisters, CSI:Miami or even the "Death Of Bart Allen" storyline in Flash, you may have encountered his current run on Amazing Spider-Man, his new Young X-Men series or even a little show called Eli Stone. So how does he work it all out? Marc is happy to fill us in, plus:
