Lego Dimensions 2016: Sonic The Hedgehog, New Ghostbusters, Spielberg and more

Any worries that Lego Dimensions might not go big with their second year were unfounded— LEGO Dimensions packs based on 16 new entertainment properties will begin launching on September 27, 2016, including the new Ghostbusters film, both Harry Potter and the new spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and a certain fleet footed spiny mammal of the subfamily Erinaceinae.

The new properties come from all forms of media, including many newcomers to the building toy line:

THERE’s one ring Sonic won’t drop!

  • The Goonies
  • Gremlins
  • E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial
  • Sonic The Hedgehog
  • Knight Rider
  • The A-Team
  • Mission: Impossible
  • Ghostbusters
  • Beetlejuice
  • Teen Titans Go!
  • The Powerpuff Girls
  • Adventure Time
  • Harry Potter
  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Lego also supports its own properties with The LEGO Batman Movie and their own original videogame and kit line LEGO® City Undercover.

The gameplay will be expanding as well. All-new Battle Arenas will offer first-to-LEGO videogames competitive split-screen local gameplay for up to four players. LEGO minifigures included in the wave 6 through 9 expansion packs will come with special, golden Toy Tags which unlock a Battle Arena within the Free Play Adventure World of the corresponding entertainment brand.  Each Battle Arena has four different gameplay modes and comes with its own traps, special powers and interactive environments that make every battle arena unique.

The new Ghostbusters Story Pack, based on the upcoming film, will provide a complete movie-based gameplay experience with six puzzle-packed levels and new LEGO Gateway bricks that allow players to build Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant atop the LEGO Toy Pad.  It will also come with a buildable Abby Yates LEGO minifigure with Proton Blaster, and a 3-in-1 buildable Ecto-1 which can be rebuilt into the Ectozer and The PerfEcto.

The pack unlocks “Rip,” a new Toy Pad mode allowing players to tear open an alternate universe. In this mirror world, players have the ability to solve puzzles and affect objects and other items in the primary universe. And like all gold-tag minifigures purchased, Abby Yates provides access to a new themed Adventure World with its own unique Battle Arena.

The Ghostbusters Story Pack is just the first of this new exciting pack type, with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the highly anticipated theatrical release, still to come later this year.  The LEGO DIMENSIONS packs will be the exclusive construction toy offering this holiday for the exciting expansion of J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World.

DeNA scores Final Fantasy license, releasing Final Fantasy Record Keeper in the US

It’s touted as “the only game to let players relive favorite moments across all past FINAL FANTASY installments and build a team of classic characters. ”

Featuring an all-star cast of characters including Tidus, Lightning, and Cloud, players recruit their favorite heroes from across the entire FINAL FANTASY franchise to form the most dynamic team of all time. With a massive roster of characters, the possibilities are endless! Characters can each be completely customized and equipped to the fullest with iconic gear, powerful spells, summons, and hundreds of weapons to choose from.

This game joins a number of mobile games that have attempted to bring the franchise to the mobile medium.  Unlike games like FF: All The Bravest , the game appears to more closely mimic the classic “Active Time Battle” interface of the early games of the series.

“FINAL FANTASY: Record Keeper delivers the ultimate FINAL FANTASY experience for the dedicated and passionate fans of this franchise and we are excited to work with SQUARE ENIX to bring it to players worldwide this spring,” said Shintaro Asako, CEO of DeNA West.

Square Enix has also released many of their original games for mobile platforms, including several of the FF and Dragon Quest series, as well as classics like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana.

FINAL FANTASY: Record Keeper will be available in spring 2015 as a free download in the AppStore and Google Play. Fans can pre-register at FinalFantasyRecordKeeper.com for updates, and unlock powerful in-game content at launch.

The Quest is Ended: Tom Baker joins Doctor Who Legacy

Collectors love completing a set.  So imagine the joy of players of Doctor Who: Legacy when it was announced that Tom Baker, a.k.a. “Four,” had been approved for addition to the game, thus giving a full set of Doctors. The download code for Tom Baker was released earlier today via Kotaku.

img_0026-300x400-6832809The free-to-play game has gained a steady stream of additional content since its release last December– dozens of new  Companions, costumes for both friends and Doctors alike, new levels based on past episodes and seasons of the show, and a plethora of enemies new and old.

With the new season, new content has kicked into high gear. Levels and characters based on each new episode have been added every week shortly after their broadcast.

By keeping in touch via the game’s Facebook page or their newsletter, players can receive free download codes for the new content, as well as being able to receive alternate versions of the characters by playing special expert levels, or via the fan area. The fan area opens up once a player buys five time crystals, the game’s premium currency, and is well worth the minor expense.

Special black and white editions of The Brigadier and the First and Second Doctors give a clue as the depth and detail the game offers.

Doctor Who has been steadily increasing his footprint in the videogame world.  Official Minecraft skins were released recently for the Xbox version of the game, and the BBC has just unveiled a new game for the CBBC website, The Doctor and the Dalek, an educational game that teaches programming skills by allowing the player to take control of a malfunctioning Dalek.

Doctor Who: Legacy is free for AppleAndroid and Kindle devices, as well as playable online via Facebook.
