Michael Uslan goes from ‘Dark Knight’ to Archie and Pureheart the Powerful

Michael Uslan goes from ‘Dark Knight’ to Archie and Pureheart the Powerful

We all knew that Michael Uslan, executive producer of the Batman movies (All of them. Yes, that one. That one too. Okay, not the Adam West one) was scripting the upcoming Archie #600, wherein the Eternal Teenager finally ties the knot with Veronica, settling more than seventy years(!) of wondering.

What we just found yesterday, thanks to the Archie blog, is that he’s also slated to revive Archie’s superhero alter ego, Pureheart the Powerful, along with his team, Pureheart’s Emergency Patrol, in the span of five one shots starting early next year. From the blog:

“Michael Uslan
explains ‘We’re not just talking ONE super-hero here! Archie will be
joined by Betty as
Superteen,
Jughead
as
Captain
Hero
, Reggie as
Evilheart,
Jr
, and wait’ll you see the super-versions of Veronica,
Dilton
and Moose! Surprises
galore are just ahead!”

The one-shots will be taking the titles of the Golden Age books that originally contained the Archie Comics, then MLJ Comics, line-up of superheroes: Pep Comics, Jackpot Comics, Blue Ribbon Comics, Zip Comics, and Top-Notch Laugh Comics.

More details here.

Batcave Home Theater

Batcave Home Theater

Valerie D’Orazio points us to this Gizmodo story about a home theater system company that built their very own Bat-theater.

While it’s pretty dang cool, it’s not quite as impressive as the comic book professional who converted his basement into his own Batcave, complete with:

  • giant screen TV
  • desk carved in the shape of a bat symbol
  • hidden door to the stairway
  • atomic turbine, and
  • working batpole hidden behind the bookcase that leads from the first floor to the basement office– for when inspiration struck and the stairs were too slow, I guess.

But that’s not the impressive part. It’s that, since he was doing it for his home office, and that he was a comic book professional and it helped him get in the right mindset to create, it was all tax deductible. The only person who could write this off would be Michael Uslan.

The Rock IS Adam

The Rock IS Adam

Dwayne Johnson, the wrestler/actor formerly and yet forever known as The Rock, has signed on as Black Adam in the upcoming Shazam! movie. Not only does he look the part, he’ll fill out the costume just fine.

Directed by Peter Segal (Get Smart, also co-starring the Rock) andwritten by John August (Corpse Bride), William Goldman (All The President’s Men) and Bryan Goluboff (The Basketball Diaries) and co-produced by Michael Uslan (the Batman movies, Frank Miller’s Will Eisner’s The Spirit), shooting is expected to begin in about a year. Assuming the writers’ strike is resolved by then.
