Tweeks: Giving Thanks For Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

Effie replaces Fulvia in MockingjayThe Tweeks are definitely Hunger Games fangirls, but how did the first half of the final book in the trilogy stand up in cinematic form?  This week the girls weight in on Francis Lawrence’s job of hobbiting (breaking a literary property into unneeded multiple movies) Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.

Tweeks: Get Silly With Bad Machinery: The Case of the Simple Soul

comics-bad-machinery-1This week the Tweeks are giddy over the release of the third volume of John Allison’s Bad Machinery.  In Bad Machinery: The Case of the Simple Soul, the kids from Tackleford, England attempt to solve some wacky mysteries (barn fires for the boys and a troll make-over for the girls).  Already big fans of the series (watch their review of the 1st two volumes!), Maddy & Anya couldn’t help getting silly over this new release from Oni Press.  It’s full of LOLs over trolls.

Tweeks: Big Hero 6 Review

Baymaxwith2SoccerBallsThis week we review Disney’s Big Hero 6!  Of course, we rushed out opening weekend to see it and of course, it’s Tweeks Approved.  It was a winner on Baymax alone, but watch our video to see what else we loved about this Marvel comic turned tear-jerker Disney animated movie.

Tweeks: Fragile Delights!

fragile_chapter_01_by_shourimajo-d4acxghEven though this month has brought The Tweeks sickness, they are still super excited about November.  You won’t find Maddy & Anya pushing an early Christmas (Snowflake red cups on Halloween, seriously, Starbucks?) but you will find them celebrating what is currently making them happy— stuff like the new Marvel movies announcement, the spoiler about Tom Hiddleston in Avengers: Age of Ultron, new movies on Netflix, Halloween candy, and the graphic novel, Fragile— which may have cured the girls of their aversion to Manga!

Tweeks: Comics Squad Recess!

61h2oMNqD0L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_Hey Middle Grade Readers!  When you unload some of your trick or treat candy to the local orthodontist this weekend for cash, you might be looking for something to spend it on.  Well, since this time of year reminds us of the Scholastic Book Fair and rainy day recesses spent inside reading, we suggest: Comic Squad: Recess! It’s an anthology featuring some of the best in kids’ comics writing and drawing about the best part of school: recess!  There’s a super-secret Ninja club, a magic acorn, kickball, cupcakes and more!

Tweeks: Rick Riordan’s ‘Blood of Olympus’ Costume Ideas & Review

hunters_of_artemis_by_taratjah-d6bsr1zAs we approach Halloween, The Tweeks have a feeling some of you still haven’t planned out your costume.   Never fear!  This week we offer up a variety of easy, quick, simple Percy Jackson themed costumes you can probably find in your closet!  We also model our Hunters of Artemis costumes, explain Amazons, and Maddy reviews Rick Riordan’s [[[Blood of Olympus]]], the last book in the [[[Heroes of Olympus]]] series.

Tweeks: Love Riverdale

archie-1The Tweeks would not exist without Archie. These were our first comics and we loved them. We still love them. Archie taught us to love comics and teen drama. So this week we talk all about Archie and make a case for the few kids out there who haven’t read Archie for whatever reason to get on it. We also review Afterlife with Archie (we admit, we were afraid to read it!) and Diary of a Girl Next Door: Betty.

Tweeks: Long Beach Comic Con Fun

logo_lbcc_largeSeptember 27 & 28, we attended Long Beach Comic Con for the first time.  It was our first smaller-sized con and we LOVED it!  It was so easy and fun.  We really were able to enjoy the art, the cosplay, and hear about new comics.  We also learned how to draw The Simpsons, got the scoop on Afterlife with Archie, played Star Wars laser tag, and maybe did a bit of fangirl shopping on the floor.

Tweeks: MLP Spooktacular Pony Tales Ushers in Halloween

chicken_pie_by_keinzantezuken-d4dj64iNow that it’s officially autumn, we’re ready to jump right into Halloween.  Thankfully, Shout! Factory has just released Spooktacular Pony Tales, a collection of six My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic episodes (along with extras like pumpkin stencils & a sing-a-long!) to help us ease into probably the best holiday ever!  Of course, we’d watch Pinkie Pie in a chicken costume any time of year.
