‘Watchmen’ Action Figures Revealed

‘Watchmen’ Action Figures Revealed

Back in 2000, DC Direct created figures based on Alan Moore’s Watchmen to celebrate the comic’s 15th anniversary. Unfortunately, a dispute caused Moore to pull out of the project and the figures were scrapped, never to see the light of day.

Fans wondered if they’d ever have a chance to own a plastic version of The Comedian and place it upon their computer desks for all the world to see, right between the empty bottles of Mountain Dew and the economy bag of Doritos.

Wonder no more, because Watchmen action figures are on the way! Since Moore steadfastly chooses not to have anything to do with Zack Synder’s film adaptation of Watchmen, apparently it’s kosher to make action figures based on it!

DC Direct will debut all of the figures at the New York Comic-Con on Friday, but Entertainment Weekly scored an early look at two of them: Nite Owl and Rorschach. The figures will be released in January of next year, which is enough time to buy them all before the film is released on March 6.

‘Incredible Hulk’ Poster Revealed

‘Incredible Hulk’ Poster Revealed

The Incredible Hulk is looking to be the green-headed stepchild of the summer movie season.

Everyone is going gaga over The Dark Knight and Iron Man, while no one is paying any attention to the Hulk’s film. Is it because of the negative opinion of Ang Lee’s Hulk? Is it because no one really cares about the character, or is the film just being lost in a season of box office megahits?

The general apathy around the film is only increased by the fact that the film’s very first poster was released today. Keep in mind the film is set to be released on June 13.

The poster is definitely evocative of the classic Incredible Hulk TV show, but will that be enough to get people in theaters?

Head over to IGN to see the full sized version of the green goliath’s one sheet for yourself.

‘Justice League’ Film Delayed Again

‘Justice League’ Film Delayed Again

ComicMix previously reported that the Justice League film currently in production was having a few problems with tax breaks in Australia. Alas, the combined might of superheroes is no match for the tax system and the production of the film will have to move elsewhere.

Previously, Canada was cited as the likely destination of the film. However, now New Zealand is being floated as a possible candidate. Not only is it closer to Australia than Canada is, but special effects studio Weta Workshop is located there. Weta is responsible for designing the costumes for the film.

The film already has actors cast and a script ready, but the the inability to find a suitable location for filming could prevent Justice League from ever taking off. If the SAG ends up striking, it could be the final nail in the coffin for this troubled production.

‘Heroes: Origins’ Cancelled

‘Heroes: Origins’ Cancelled

Ben Silverman, the co-chairman of NBC Entertainment, has confirmed that the heavily hyped Heroes spin-off, Heroes: Origins, has officially been scrapped.

The series was originaly supposed to present the origins of characters with super powers, some of which would have been incorporated into the parent show. Top notch writers and directors like Kevin Smith and Eli Roth were attached to the spin-off before it was unceremoniously dumped.

No explanation was given for axing the spin-off, but the poor quality and declining ratings of the second season of Heroes may have been a factor. As for the parent show, it should return for a third season of 20 episodes if all goes well and the Screen Actors Guild doesn’t go on strike this summer.

‘Dragonball’ Set Pictures Online

‘Dragonball’ Set Pictures Online

ComicMix previously reported that the Dragonball film has been pushed back to 2009, but now Joblo has posted some exclusive pictures from the set of the movie that should help hold you over until then.

Based off of the popular manga series and animated program, the movie follows Goku as he tries to find Master Roshi and collect all of the Dragon Balls in order to save the world from the evil Piccolo.

If you’re worried that all of this will look a little ridiculous in live action, well, you’re right, but isn’t that half the charm?

The set photos include pictures of Justin Chatwin in his Goku gear, Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi, and Emmy Rossum as Bulma. Unfortunately, we don’t get to see James Marsters in his Piccolo get-up yet. Oh well, it’s always best to save the best for last.

ComicMix previously reported that Michael Cera was in negotiations to star in a film adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim series. Now Cera has spoken out about his role in the film, which also has an official title: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.

Cera will star as the titular character in the film, which is being adapted by Edgar Wright (Spaced, Shaun of the Dead). When asked about working on the project, Cera brought the love:

“I love the graphic novels, they’re amazing,” gushed Cera. “The first time I met Edgar, we hung out in Toronto with Bryan Lee O’Malley, and he showed me pages from the fourth book that hadn’t come out yet. It was awesome!”

“Scott’s a dreamer, I guess, so it’s a bit of a change. I’m really excited to do it and work with Edgar – he’s someone who’s really funny and an awesome guy.”

According to Cera, the parties involved hope to begin filming the movie this fall, although the actor’s strike could potentially affect when shooting begins.
