We Must Defend Thanos’s Constitutional Right to Snap His Fingers and Make Half of the Universe Disappear

We Must Defend Thanos’s Constitutional Right to Snap His Fingers and Make Half of the Universe Disappear

We try not to get political here at ComicMix, but this is just too important in the wake of current events to ignore.

The Second Amendment is clear: the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Granted, when the Founding Fathers wrote that amendment, they understood an “arm” to be a musket, which, if you were a practiced expert, could fire (at best) maybe three or four rounds a minute. But don’t you think that they probably kind of also assumed “arms” would eventually mean that any American or intergalactic Titan, if he or she so chose, could if snap their fingers (which are attached to the arms) and instantly wipe out 50% of life on the planet? If you read — actually read — the Constitution, I think you definitely get this vibe that they saw this kind of situation coming.

We’re sure that Bob Ingersoll will be covering this in detail soon.

Wakandacon is back with all things Black

Wakandacon Forever– okay, this weekend only, but still!

Wakandacon, a three-day Afrofuturistic convention that celebrates Black culture, was created last year by siblings and Chicagoland natives Ali, David, and Matt Barthwell. They were inspired by the futuristic society depicted in Marvel’s comic book series and box-office hit Black Panther to curate a space for Black creatives that recaptures the communal magic of Wakanda. At the heart of the convention is the concept of Afrofuturism, an artistic and cultural framework for imagining tech-savvy, self-determined futures for Black communities.

GrimJack announced as Russo Brothers’ next project at SDCC

The Manx Cat is out of the bag.

Grimjack is being developed at Amazon by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO Studios and being written by Kevin Murphy, the creator of Defiance, Heathers the Musical and Reefer Madness. Grimjack, created by John Ostrander and Tim Truman, is the adventures of John Gaunt, hard-boiled barbarian who walks the mean streets of the interdimensional city Cynosure, where magic works on one side of the street but not the other, technology becomes sentient down the block, and swords and a bad attitude work everywhere.

If you want to read up on GrimJack before everyone else, here’s your chance— ComicMix is publishing the original runs in Omnibus format. Dive in now!

Meet the New Writers of James Bond 007 – Vita Ayala and Danny Lore

Vita Ayala and Danny Lore are writing the new “James Bond 007” comic, and if some people were ticked at a black woman taking over 007 before…

There’s been a whole lot of noise about Lashana Lynch, most recently seen as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel, being given the 007 number in the film currently known only as Bond 25. A black woman as 007?

We suspect there’s going to be even more noise over this. Bleeding Cool reports:

Vita Ayala and Danny Lore are the new writers for Dynamite Entertainment’s comic book series, James Bond 007, with art from Eric Gapstur . The new James Bond 007 #1 comic book will be published in October with covers from Jimmy Cheung.

We here at ComicMix are big fans of Vita and Danny, and look forward to reading it in three months… unless, of course, they slip us an early look…

Bro, Do You Even Edit? Justice League: Release the Snyder Cut Ads Spotted at Comic-Con

Bro, Do You Even Edit? #ReleaseTheSnyderCut ads for “Justice League” spotted at Comic-Con

Bro, Do You Even Edit? Justice League: Release the Snyder Cut Ads Spotted at Comic-Con

Fans hoping to convince Warner Bros. to release an extended cut of Justice League as envisioned by director Zack Snyder have taken out a billboard in San Diego to greet fans during Comic Con International, marking the latest in a series of highly visible requests from the fans.

Fans supporting the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag will descend on San Diego wearing t-shirts, paying for billboards and, if past behavior is any indicator, probably asking questions about the cut at DC and Warner Bros. events. The campaign has become long enough and visible enough to compare to the efforts by fans to pressure Warner Bros. into releasing Richard Donner’s cut of Superman II — which they eventually did, but it took about 20 years.

Tonight on RiffTrax Live– Mike Grell???

Fans of Mystery Science Theater 3000 are certainly familiar with RiffTrax, where MST3K alumni Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett pick on cheesy movies (the worst they can find, la la la) by creating play along audio files and occasionally taking their show on the road, doing live events that are beamed to theaters all around the country.

And tonight, to celebrate their tenth anniversary, they have a doozy… Star Raiders: The Adventures of Saber Raine.

It’s the year 2762. The galaxy is plagued with warring factions using hokey special effects to destroy each other. Out of this chaos a hero rises: the dashing, exquisitely bearded Captain Saber Raine (Casper Van Dien). Saber and his elite squad of commandos (other actors) embark on a dangerous quest to save the Prince and Princess of an unnamed planet from the clutches of the Evil Overlord Sinjin – an overlord so evil HIS VERY SKULL IS FILLED WITH CHERRY JELL-O.

Can our heroes fend off Sinjin’s army of mutant androids and rescue the Prince and Princess? Probably! After all it’s Space Opera, but you never know!

Now normally, even though we love the RiffTrax guys, this wouldn’t necessarily generate a mention on ComicMix. But this one is special. Because this movie also features, as one of the other actors, Mike Grell.

Yes, that Mike Grell, famed of Green Arrow, Warlord, Iron Man, Legion of Super-Heroes, and our own Jon Sable Freelance, playing a character name Jax Grymm. (If this reminds you of GrimJack, well…)

Take a look at the full trailer and see if you can spot him, starting around 48 seconds…

You can order tickets for tonight and June 11th at RiffTrax. And if you’re strong enough, you can also stream the movie on Amazon Prime.

USC Gets Collection of 180,000 Comics With First Avengers, Justice League, X-Men

University of South Carolina Gets Collection of 180,000 Comics With First Appearances of Avengers, Justice League, X-Men

And you thought you had a large collection to organize…

The collection, worth an estimated $2.5 million, includes first editions and first appearances from the Avengers, Justice League, X-Men, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and the Hulk as well as a number of comics rom the so-called Golden Age covering the 1930s through the 1950s.

The collection contains non-superhero comics from romances (Boy Meets Girl) to religious stories (He’s The Greatest), science fiction magazines and Mutt and Jeff books that date back to the early 20th century.

University library officials have gone through about 100 of the 500 long boxes donated by Gary Watson, a retired Columbus, Ohio, nurse who has never visited USC but whose life’s work now sits in a vault inside the school’s library.

So yeah, you’re not getting access to all of it right away. On the other hand, if you were considering whether or not to accept that admission to USC, this may be an important factor to consider.
