Martha Thomases: What Comes Around.

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

I always read the writing and directing credits at the start of TV episodes to see if the series is hiring women or people of color (the latter is harder to spot). I’ve been pleased to see more women’s names in those positions on the superhero shows and was thrilled that the finale of this season of American Horror Story was directed by Jennifer Lynch, who’s done some exceptional television work of late.

I look, too. It seems like there are more women in creative behind-the-camera positions in television than there are in comics.

Also, I’m, like, four episodes behind in AHS. It’s really scary this season,.
