Martha Thomases: Gods and Starz

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

STARZ has done a great job with its original series, Martha. Check out OUTLANDER and THE WHITE PRINCESS (also THE WHITE QUEEN). Both, im-not-so-ho, even better than the books–in the case of OUTLANDER, waaay better. (Only problem with OUTLANDER is that STARZ ON DEMAND no longer offers the first season, which I totally don’t understand. So you will have to watch the first season on either the computer or via Roku or another system.)

I have always adored Ian McShane (and also think he’s incredibly sexy). My first encounter with him was waaaay back in the day when he was in THE WINDS OF WAR.

Like you, my memory of AMERICAN GODS was a bit hazy, although I also loved it, and agreed it was a giant leap for our mutual friend Neil. Loving the adaptation…and agree that Dave McKean’s art has heavily influenced it.

In regard to STARZ not offering the first season of OUTLANDER–it is really weird, as if you go over to SHOWTIME, you can get every season of THE TUDORS, HOMELAND, and their other series. And since OUTLANDER has been such a huge hit for them, it’s doubly puzzling.
