Dennis O’Neil: Commissioner Gordon, Here And There

Dennis O'Neil

Dennis O'Neil was born in 1939, the same year that Batman first appeared in Detective Comics. It was thus perhaps fated that he would be so closely associated with the character, writing and editing the Dark Knight for more than 30 years. He's been an editor at Marvel and DC Comics. In addition to Batman, he's worked on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, the Question, The Shadow and more. O'Neil has won every major award in the industry. His prose novels have been New York Times bestsellers. Denny lives in Rockland County with his wife, Marifran.

  1. Perhaps because “Gotham” cannot show Batman, the series, while serving as a prequel, is offering a rationale for Batman’s existence as the ultimate answer to confronting the escalating crime and criminal types in Gotham City. Each season offers different types of crime fighters : the dedicated cops, the retired Secret Agent, the teenage Amatuer sleuth, the streetwise “Artful Dodger”-type kid, the militant commanding officer…now, with Gordon off the force, we’ve got the P.I./Bounty hunter in play, plus “Valerie” Vale as thr crusading reporter. At some point, we’ll probably see a precursor to the costumed superhero before Bruce even tries on a domino mask.
