Joe, as I said to Martha in my last reply to her latest column:

“But I’m still annoyed with this compulsion to label everyone. But that’s just me. I never think about anyone’s specific sexuality because I don’t care about that–I just care that people are “mensches.” :-)

And I’m not surprised that Jughead is “asexual.” Hasn’t that always been obvious?:”

And, I might add, the only romantic relationship Jughead has ever had is with hamburgers. :-D

    • Joe Corallo says:

That is of course true about Jughead’s relationship with hamburgers.

I think it’s good to use the language and reaffirm for people who might be similar to Jughead in that way that it’s totally normal and acceptable behavior.

The labels aren’t just for identifying other people either. Some people do like to self identify.

And for practical reasons, as far as dating goes, many websites now tailor to different labels and tags in people’s descriptions which can be very beneficial. I would approach going on a date with someone who identifies as gay differently than I would someone who identifies as asexual/homoromantic.

      Everybody wins!

Your comment about the labeling of dating sites made me laugh.

I’ve done JDate and OurTime (that one is for people over 50.) Didn’t have any luck with either. (Nor with eharmony or Match.com, for that matter.)

Maybe I”m just an outlier? (Another label!)
