I understand how big a deal “THAT KISS” was, Molly, and I also know that advertisers and television stations in the South refused to air that broadcast…and when I first saw “THAT KISS” I was thrilled…

But looking back now, or rewatching the scene, I get pissed off, because ot the story and the way the script was written Kirk (Shatner) and Uhura (Nichols) had to play it: they didn’t want to kiss, they were being manipulated by the antagonists, they were actually REPELLED by it….

Which, to me, play(ed) right into the bigots’ hands.

As Shatner once said (and I’m paraphrasing)…”What man in his right mind wouldn’t want to hold and kiss a gorgeous woman like Nichel?”
