ComicMix Six: The Six Worst Movies of 2014
3. [[[Think Like a Man Too]]] – I hated the original Think Like a Man so when Think Like a Man Too made me nostalgic for its predecessor I knew it was a real achievement in weaving bland stereotypes in to movies. Giving up the insipid “women need to trick men in to relationships” premise of the first one should have done wonders for this film but instead the filmmakers decided they would be better served by 90 minutes of mother-in-law jokes. There was about as much original comedy in here as an episode of The Flintstones but at least Hanna Barbera had the decency to throw in some caveman puns for their mother-in-law jokes. Kevin Hart clearly has some quality that I can’t quite grasp that makes all his films such runaway hits but this one I could not stand.
2. [[[Transformers: Age of Extinction]]] – I understand that there’s a strong market for the vacuous crap that Michael Bay puts out but is anyone really demanding that these movies be close to three hours long? Are there people who would be demanding refunds if these films were a trim two hours? I just don’t understand. There’s very little new in the fourth entry in the Transformers series: there are copious explosions, hard to follow robot fights, weird racism, and ample sexual objectification. It’s a disaster of a movie and everything that’s wrong with modern blockbuster culture.
