As to the Christian attitude toward suicide – one of my favourite webcomics, Mysteries of the Arcana, begins with Theresa, one of the protagonists, burning all the mementos of her life, then walking into an abandoned subway tunnel where her body will never be found to kill herself.

Raised Catholic, she believes that suicide will damn her soul to Hell – but, as we find out later, she believes she is already condemned, anyway.

From there, a goodly underlying part of the story is Theresa finding redemption in her own eyes.

If there is an afterlife, I would like to think that when Robin Williams arrived, Christopher Reeve would WALK up to him and give him a big hug.
