Joh, I wrote that piece on Goyer. As I transcribed his comments, your work on J’onn absolutely came up in my mind. I thought man, if only this guy had read even one issue of John and Tom Mandrake’s series, he’d know how ridiculous he sounds and how much potential there is to explore with this character. What’s more, sci-fi has a long love affair with the planet Mars. It’s great that J’onn’s existence is a call back to that. Glad you wrote your thoughts on the topic, thank you.

They say that every character out there is someone’s favourite. The Martian Manhunter is one of mine. I loved the 90’s series, loved what DC did with him in the animated JL and JLU series, and even more recently in the Young Justice and Smallville. The best rebuttal I saw to Goyer’s ridiculous comments about no one having heard of the MM was to ask every kid in America if they they’d heard of him, and the response would be pretty much all of them.

Comparing the Nolan Batman trilogy to Man of Steel is really apples and oranges. They are totally, horribly, different, and that is a serious problem. Yes MoS isn’t your father’s Superman, but it shouldn’t be that wide of the mark either. It should still be true to the heart of the material, but it wasn’t. And now my strong suspicions as to why have been confirmed.
