Dennis O’Neil: What the World Would Be Like if “Noah” Didn’t Exist

Dennis O'Neil

Dennis O'Neil was born in 1939, the same year that Batman first appeared in Detective Comics. It was thus perhaps fated that he would be so closely associated with the character, writing and editing the Dark Knight for more than 30 years. He's been an editor at Marvel and DC Comics. In addition to Batman, he's worked on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, the Question, The Shadow and more. O'Neil has won every major award in the industry. His prose novels have been New York Times bestsellers. Denny lives in Rockland County with his wife, Marifran.

I’ve heard that some evangelical types believe that the world won’t end in ecological catastrophe because the Lord won’t let it end.

Tell that to all the folks who didn’t get onto Noah’s boat.

“God gave Noah the sign … not the water, the fire next time.”

IIRC from Hebrew school, Mike (and Denny), that God set a rainbow up in the sky over Mt. Arafat as Noah, his family, and all those beasties and creepy crawlies came out of the Ark, and said something like, “Behold!” (’cause God always says “Behold!”) “I set this rainbow in the sky as a promise to you and all your generations to come that I will never again destroy humanity.”

    Or something like that.

God didn’t say anything about humanity destroying humanity.
