Martha Thomases: Terry Crews, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

There were similar criticisms for Dollhouse when it started…

Remember – it was only in Episode Six that the network let Joss start telling the story he really want to tell.

This is somewhat more subtle Executive Meddling than what was done to Firefly – but, i think, no less destructive, since if a new show doesn’t grab the viewers by the second or at most third segment, it’s likely doomed.

BTW – be warned – the above link leads to one of the more infamous time sinks on the Web…

Martha, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE is not the first “sitcom” set in a police station. Remember BARNEY MILLER? (I remember reading that many police officers said that MILLER really captured the nuttiness that goes on in precinct stations.)

And I love Andre Bragher, too. He has done remarkable work on shows like HOUSE (playing House’s psychiatrist when House cracked up) and a lawyer (I can’t remember the character’s name) on LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT.

I’m hanging in there on AGENTS OF SHIELD and crossing my fingers that more of Wheedon comes through, despite the “Executive Meddling.”

  3. The Wife loves Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I can hear her cackling from the bedroom as I watch SHIELD in the living room. I watch it later, and find it very funny. You know that’s Dan “Hoss” Blocker as Hitchcock, yes?

Terry Crews is glorious. He comes across in interviews as the happiest man on Earth, and when on camera, as the craziest.
