  1. You’re in a position to know more about this than I do, but the story I heard at the beginning was this: DC never said they weren’t going to publish the story. It was bought before knowledge about Card’s stand was made public. DC intended to run it in the first (print) issue when the original artist declared that he, having learned about Card, chose not to illustrate the story. DC would have to (and presumably did) find another artist willing to draw it, but it would miss the deadline for making the first issue. Certainly, morally, it would be proper to bury the story, but I don’t think any promises were ever made to kill it.

  2. Forgive me if I’m just being dense, but I fail to see the hypocrisy. I can see insensitivity, I can see greed (“We bought the story and we’re gonna use it!”), but is it corporate hypocrisy if the artist walked off the assignment? DCE said they would print the story from day one, and they’re doing so. Unless they paid the artist under the table to walk away from it, ethics aside, I don’t see the problem.

I read an interview with Ice-T (who plays Detective Finn Tutuola on my favorite cop show, LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT) a while ago in which he said he regretted that song and that working on the show totally changed his whole attitude towards the police.
