    Mike,

Nit-picking is so much fun … especially when I have a nit to pick with you! Your comment on King Kong, “It’s a great movie …” Absolutely agree, one of the best! Your next comment, ” …all the more impressive as it only offers a merely adequate cast (by and large).” C’mon. Robert Armstrong, as Carl Denham, delivers an incredible performance in an incredibly difficult role. It’s the glue that makes the film come alive and believable. A role, I might add, that Jack Black failed miserably in the the re-make.

Take Armstrong’s speech to Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) in the restaurant when he sells her on bright lights, stardom and adventure … his delivery makes it real. In fact, he sorta reminds me of a real fellow who once told me “… think of it, we can make our own comic books!”

And the supporting cast? Well, I rest my case on both fronts.
