DENNIS O’NEIL: The World Must Make Sense

Dennis O'Neil

Dennis O'Neil was born in 1939, the same year that Batman first appeared in Detective Comics. It was thus perhaps fated that he would be so closely associated with the character, writing and editing the Dark Knight for more than 30 years. He's been an editor at Marvel and DC Comics. In addition to Batman, he's worked on Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron Man, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow, the Question, The Shadow and more. O'Neil has won every major award in the industry. His prose novels have been New York Times bestsellers. Denny lives in Rockland County with his wife, Marifran.

  1. Roger Buck says:

An Occam’s Razor approach, I think. But the ever-present danger of Occam’s razor is reductionism.

However, I do very much appreciate this sentiment:

“there’s another me that doesn’t want to perpetuate ugliness of any kind …”

I really am very, very, very moved by the heartfelt moral beauty in so much of your writing.

As well as other important things.

Last night I read GL/GA 84’s Peril in Plastic and found it terribly prophetic.

At the end GL says the people of Piper’s Dell were not so different in their plastic world – just more greedy and less responsible.

    That was 1970.

By the time the 80’s/90’s rolled in, the world was far more plastic, greedy and less responsive.

    We have become Piper’s Dell.

Your comics writing is a joy for me. Thank you deeply. Happy New Year
