Martha Thomases: The Wonderful Party

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

  1. I’ve long believed that in a hundred years or so, we’ll just have “Holiday”, a sort of non-specific amalgam of the various religious practices, merged into a single two-week long jumboort of general festivity, decoration and jollity.

There would certainly be recreations of more “traditional” celebrations , but they’d be seen as quaint, much like we view Colonial Williamsburg.

None of this will be as a result of any governmental fiat or specific demands by any religious or not religious groups. Just that over time, the more you handle something, the more worn it gets, the corners get rounded, the paint dulls. People will finally recognize that since SO many celebrations centered around the winter solstice, it makes more sense to mix them together.

To be honest, it doesn’t matter who was or is writing it – returning Barbara Gordon as Batgirl was and is a Bad Idea.
