It’s been a while since I’ve seen the current incarnation of the Phantom newspaper comic, so maybe I’m misremembering, but I thought that the people of whatever communities he protects are aware that “The Phantom” is a role handed down from father to son. However, they help maintain the legend by giving outsiders the line about him being 400+ years old.

Too bad Falk never explored (so far as I know) a storyline where a particular Phantom had no sons, but one or more daughters. Would the elder Phantom have refused to train his daughter, deciding to wait for a grandson, with her taking matters into her own hand (as in Leave it to Chance)? It seems unlikely that there was never a generation that didn’t have any sons.

I also understand the Phantom has two rings. He marks criminals and other enemies with the skull ring. The other ring is for friends. Does that mean he punches his friends, too, only with the “good” ring?

    Wham!

“Now everyone will know you’re under my protection.”

    “Thanks. I- OUCH- appreciate that.”
