Martha Thomases: TV or Hot TV

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

Martha, I never heard the Cadillac joke–perhaps because my Dad loved Oldsmobilies?–but I also hungered for the new season of TV shows and avidly read the Fall Premiere issue of TV Guide. (Still do!)

Speaking of new shows, did you catch LAST RESORT last night (Thursday)? Absolutely brilliant, with lots of HOT HOT HOT men plus Andre Bragher!!!!

When I was quite little, we still had an icebox. But my parents bought their first teevee set in 1948. Priorities!

And I think we’ll still call home video recording “taping” for a long time to come. After all, we still “dial” telephones. But the next time you call me, don’t be surprised if I answer “Number Please?”

I feel the same way about wanting to and not being able to keep up on ALL THE THINGSSSS. However, as you may have seen from my last column, I am keeping up on Arrow (and I have more thoughts for this week’s column, and positive ones at that) and Elementary is the other one I’m making an effort for. I reviewed the pilot here (http://redcircledc.org/index.php?id=47) and it’s continuing to be fun to watch so far. (And I have also looooved Jonny Lee Miller since Hackers. Hee.)
