Solid column, well-reasoned. FYI, though, your quotes are not entirely accurate. There’s no “never explain” in the Wayne quote, and while I’ve practically got the Patton movie committed to memory, I don’t recall anything exactly like the quote you attribute to it. But it’s most important to realize that the Republican party is trying to emulate characters that were FLAWED, and whose foolishness is exemplified by their quotes. I’m convinced that the secret to life lies in meaningful apologies and explanations, not in presuming that other people’s questioning of one’s behavior can be ignored or ridden over roughshod.

I would use the final words in BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI to describe the Republican party and its candidates today, John.

    “Madness. Madness!”

    BRILLIANT, John!!!!

  3. I’ve said and posted things online that were wrong or incorrect, I’ve found that admitting I’m wrong when I learn that I’m wrong is sign of maturity and strength.

Real strength is admiting you’re wrong when you make a mistake and try to lean from it.
