Just as a point of clarification: when Akin won the primary it was reported by the media that he was a Tea Party candidate. That was not true. He was not endorsed by the Tea Party. The Tea Party and Sarah Palin endorsed former state treasurer, Sarah Steelman. Akin however was supported by the Democratic party as the candidate that Claire McCaskill most wanted to run against by running negative ads about Steelman and another primary candidate, John Brunner.
