Geeze. I pad $4 attending for my first WorldCon in Cleveland, 1966.
    .
Or was that NYCon3 in 1967? Come to think, i think TriCon was $3 attending.

  2. How can I put this…oh I know…fuck them. How in the Hell can an average fan afford this? I’m well aware that it’s costly to put on these events but fuck them. Yeah-I’m pretty sure I’m blowing my free admission and burning a bridge but FUCK THEM. I mean REALLY.

Having been involved in bidding and planning a WorldCon (Atlanta, 1986), i’m amazed that they can do it so cheap;ly in this day and age.

Have you priced what professional conventions, or thebig electronics shows cost?
      .
The only reason it’s this inexpensive is that virtually everything is done by volunteer labour.

Also, i’m pretty sure that what i paid for MidAmericon (1976) and SunCon (1977), if inflation-adjusted, wouldn’t be that much short of this amount. (Wish i could find the numbers)
        .
There is a hell of a lot more programming than there was in the 1960s at the two WorldCons i referred to, and a lot of stuff has to be paid for.
        .
BTW – when i paid $4 for my NyCon3 attending membership, i also paid $9 a night for a room at the Statler Hilton.
        .
        You do the math…
