Thanks for the article on Red Tails. I was really impressed by Lucas’ passion and out of (very deep) pocket commitment to get a modern day version of the Tuskegee Airmen told. Even more so when he went on Jon Stewart and put major Hollywood players (film distributors, studio execs) on blast by telling how they actively resisted supporting and distributing the film because it was ‘Too Black’. IOW, ‘we’ll be more than happy to keep funding films that show ‘those nigras’ in the worst possible light, but America doesn’t want to see them as heroes.’

If TPTB would stiff arm Lucas(!) like that, what chance does much lesser funded artists have to get positive stories told?? Having heard his tale of woe, I was really motivated to do my part and get as many butts in the seats on opening weekend as possible (my bad mOTu!! :-L )

As you (and prolly everybody else) noted…once again his leaky pen robbed the true life narrative of much of its inherent power, but I’m still picking up the DVD in the hope that every dollar spent will punch a HW suit in the ‘nads.

  2. Bob,

This was a great review the points you made are all points I share. What really sucks about the movie falling short is some in Hollywood will point to this and say again that Black movies don’t work’. That as I’m trying to point out in my current series of articles is simply bullshit. Black or white-a bad movie is a bad movie.

No one points to Battlefield Earth and decides not to do another science fiction movie for 10 years. It’s all bullshit of the highest order.
