Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

Key quote: I realize that suspending my belief far enough to allow for teenagers getting telekinetic powers while at a rave but not far enough to cover where they got some of the footage from makes me the worst kind of nerd.

Wow, very interesting Martha. I had read that the wedding of Lois and Clark was delayed in the comics to coincide with the TV show but I did not know how long that delay was.

World Without a Superman was a very good story arc. Although things got a bit convoluted as the video illustrates with Hank Henshaw, the scene when Lois and Lana console each other was a moving sequence decades-long in coming

… they were going to be together until death did them part (or, as fate would have it, The New 52).

Yeah, I’m still upset that they’re no longer married. I’ve said this on MOTU’s blog I think, that Superman and Lois just seem like new characters now without any emotional involvement on my part.

That last paragraph pretty well describes the whole New 52 line for me.

Yes, dumbest idea DC ever had was breaking up Lois and Clark/Superman/Kal-el.

Cynically think the reason they did it was because Marvel ended Peter and Mary Jane’s marriage.

Also cynically think that we will see them back together ere too long.

  3. A few years ago Denys Cowan and I went to the movies during Comic Con. We were there to see some blockbuster as was what looked like the entire comic book industry. Denys looked around at the audience and said; “If a bomb went off in here half the industry would be dead.” I said; “Yeah, but we would all be back next month.”

  4. Mindy Newell says:

Damn, Martha!!!!! You beat me to it!!!!!

    Mindy

    But it’s HILARIOUS, isn’t it???
